My point is to emphasize that *what* is being heard, if anything, is still a ripe for analysis. Especially if it's now claimed to be a 'small and important' improvement.

Because for a fact, it's rather extremely difficult to reconcile known science with the idea of 50 year old males hearing frequency content above 20kHz (or even that high) in recorded music played at normal levels by normal means (not e.g., skin conduction).

Which is why I predict that if audibility of 'hi rez' is investigated further, it will turn out to be due to (1) doing hi rez wrong or (2) doing hi rez-->redbook wrong or (3) doing redbook wrong.

IOW, artifacts created in the traditionally audible band.

The meagerness of this 'effect' so far suggests that either way it's not being done *very* wrong.

Contrast, for example, standard rez TV/video vs hi rez. Pretty much everyone and their uncle can tell the difference under conditions well within the normal range of viewing habits. The fact is, 'standard rez' audio is *pretty damn 'resolving'* if done right.
