Hi
I’m looking to add additional bass to my setup
Currently have a streamer and a cd player running through a
Densen B-130
Into
Monitor Audio Studio 89’s
Love the high end and the mods are excellent but suspect some additional bottom end could be very handy

Does anyone have any thoughts on the following 2 options

Monitor Audio Anthra w10

Perlisten r8s- currently on sale for about 1000 less than the MA

Cheers

Matt

For Audio, I would seriously look into the Rythmik Audio Servo controlled subwoofers, mine are 14 yrs old and still sounds better than some of the modern subs that i have/had , including Polk HTS 12, SVS SB3000, SVS PB12 and and Klipsch 12 SW something

Rythmik has been out of inventory for a few months now.

So if you put on your most bass-heavy music and crank it up, do they distort? Are the cones moving like nuts?
- If so you MUST get a highpass filter in there, which whilst your Densen looks very flexible I don't see any amplifier input to accomodate an external highpass crossover. Does it have such function built in?
- If they don't really distort then you can use one of the preouts to feed a powered subwoofer and adjust the lowpass filter for best response.

I don't know those particular sub models you mention. I will observe as a loudspeaker engineer that
- More cone area is better, like 12" at least or better yet 15"...18"...21"!!!
- A bigger box is WAY better
- "Hoffman's Iron Law" would seem to imply that a small box with a small cone can perform as well as a big woofer in a big box if you apply more amp power. That is simply not so, due to physical limitations of building the drivers, and because small enclosures appear to reduce the efficiency in the very low bass.

Thankyou, I don't ever drive the speakers hard enough to create distortion ... unfortunately, as good as the Densen is- I'm using pre outs into a powered sub and dialling in the high pass filter ... I ended up grabbing the monitor Audio Anthra W10 sub a couple of days ago ... room is small, so it is definitely big enough for the job at hand... thanks for your detailed and helpful response.
