Looking to replace a Anthem MRX-510.

I just bought Dynaudio Special 40 speakers and Emit center channel speaker. My Anthem MRX 510 will not stop popping and shutting down since I bought the new speakers (4 ohm issue?) and my local hi fi store cannot fix / find issue. Hooking up my old Rotel 1067 (from 2003) to see if it works. But would like to consider a new component to run everything:

LG 70 inch tv
oppo dvd player
rotel cd player (1055)
apple tv
svs sub
niles SSVC - speaker selector (house has 5 zones wired but i rarely use the non-family room zones due to use of bluetooth portable speaks outside on patios)

I listen to music loudly - primarily apple music thru apple tv and youtube thru comcast / rotel 5 cd player (rarely used) - mostly rock and roll, country, americana, rap

The three speakers also are used for daily tv watching (not very concerned with movie sound / theater).

Budget is roughly $4000

Thanks in advance for any recommendations or intel.

QUOTE.
The Special Forty's voltage sensitivity is specified as 86dB(B)/2.83V/m; my estimate was a little lower, at 84.4dB/2.83V/m. Specified as a nominal 6 ohm load, the Special Forty's impedance drops below 6 ohms between 125 and 320Hz, with a minimum magnitude of 4.9 ohms at 178Hz (fig.1). However, the impedance remains above 8 ohms for most of the treble and bass, and though the electrical phase angle reaches an extreme –54° at 94Hz, the magnitude is high at that frequency, ameliorating any drive difficulty.

Center channel speaker is rated 4 Ohms nominal.

Anthem MRX 510 is rated for 8 Ohm speakers in both the manual specs and on the rear panel.

After getting the details on the Anthem 510 I am not sure that it is a impedance issue but I could be wrong. The amp would need to be designed strictly for 8 Ohm speakers to have it going into protection mode with 6 or 4 Ohms speakers. Have you tried disconnecting the center speaker to see what happens?

I can understand an amp shutting down under difficult loads. Why 'popping' though? and, 4Ohm doesn't seem particularly difficult given that the Anthem seems pretty robust.

Has anything else changed?

have not disconnected center - will try that - when the repair guy connects it to 8ohm speakers at his shop - runs fine all day. thank you

and i have it at very low volume when testing it in my set up - so not running hot or being strained - ran thru dvd / apple music / tv to replicate popping and shut down - happened in all three within 20 min at low volume - realize i am not asking for a solution to the anthem but just providing info as you all are way more knowledgeable about this than me

@calstars when you check one speaker at a time disconnect the speaker wire from the rear of the amp. I know it is extra work but I have seen in the past speaker wire that is faulty. It's extremely rare but it happens.

@calstars also something that should be done is to frequency sweep your speakers. If there is something wrong with them in near most cases it will show itself while frequency sweeping. You can use this free software. Start down low and then manually and slowly sweep up in frequency and as you get to the high frequencies don't go super loud because it's hard on tweeters. Go loud but not really loud. You'll get the hang of it pretty quick.

@calstars. Let us know as things progress what happens. We get concerned and involved and want to be updated around here...LoL.

i am a bit of a weekend warrior when it comes to addressing these issues - so i will likely do the testing next weekend - the rotel 1067 is working with the three speakers without popping or shutdown - i do appreciate the help here - but would still be interested in an recommendations re new component to run my system. thank you

Denon seems to have the fewest bugs and within your budget are the 6800 and 4800 both with pre-outs that would let you add external amps in the future and still be inside your 4K budget

i continue to run the rotel 1067 without issue (just the cd player and not tv / apple tv - as rotel doesnnot have hdmi slots). the anthem is at my repair shop and running all day (for several days now) without issue. I am going to swap all cords tonite and start fresh with new speak wire, hdmi connectors, and re-hook up the anthem tomorrow. fingers crossed.
