The ADI 2 series is discontinued, is there any news on successor?

Source?

I know this thread from the very start. It is speculation based on a beefy price reduction across the ADI-2 line. Speculation includes they may retire older (like the 2 pro) but keep newer models (like the 2/4). There is no source for that claim anywhere in that thread. Just more or less informed opinions.

Edit: ADI-2 (from adi-1)

Indeed I cannot find any hint of discontinuation of RME current DACs on RME website and many major German retailers sell these devices as usual.

As of Oct 24, 2025: If you look at the B&H site they have the RME ADI-2 DAC FS marked as "Discontinued":

If I go to Amazon and try to order it. It says it can't be shipped from KELLARDS.

If I go to "Sweetwater" they no longer list ADI-2 DAC FS.

If I push the BUY button at RME: https://www.rme-usa.com/adi-2-dac.html
I get a "coming soon" message on screen but nothing added to cart.

No replacement model has been officially announced yet.
RME continues firmware and support for existing owners.
I'm excited to see what's coming next.
Perhaps it's a refresh or something totally new?

I'm using this opportunity to upgrade from the ADI-2 DAC to the Pro. It is hard to imagine that there is a radically improved DAC & ADC chip. But I would guess if they expanded the processing power, they could add functionality and address cooling which some question on the 2/4 Pro. They could add USB3.

RME has a virtual DAW, TotalMix. So more processing power could add more functionality. It would be amazing to have off the shelf industry standard plugins.

Adding Ethernet, then the ability to stream if it could be done securely using a pad or computer interface would be nice functionality.

It would be cool if Wifi-6 was added for remote ADI-2 app control along with DLNA functionality.
Perhaps even Qobuz connect app support?

I speculate higher HP power and perhaps better converter chip to compete against the Topping DX5 II, which is targeting a similar customer but for a fraction of the price, although RME has stellar reputation in both customer service and software. Let's see how this competition goes.

If I had to guess, dedicated, newer DSP chip ,probably conformity to the new European upcoming regulations as things get tighter, etc.
Nothing dramatic.

More power and more PEQ bands would be welcome

For what it is worth, I ordered an ADI-2 Pro from BH on October 16. Concerned about unavailability, I voice phoned BH customer support, requesting an email on availability. I got an email on October 17 that they had stock. I requested a delay in shipping because I was traveling, now it is shipped.

Summary, there is still product in the channel. Choose a vendor that can confirm that. You heard it first on ASR though the RME forums are good.

So the UK distributor is out of stock of everything except the 2/4 pro with no/unknown return date. However they are not listing as discontinued.

Large etailers marking things as discontinued is meaningless as it is usually automatic and really means their system has done it based on having no stock and not knowing the restock date.

Hey folks,

My guess is that it's now more than some speculation (thx @Pouyoux for pointing this out, BTW).

The ADI-2 DAC FS has just been removed from Thomann (biggest retailer in EU) this december. Same thing for most sellers after it remained discounted (839€) for months. The 2 PRO disappeared a while ago, and the 2/4 PRO SE is also almost unfindable, while it was supposed to be a limited run from the start.

The ADI-2 line is now listed as "legacy products" on the RME USA website :
Not on the main website, tho.

And most importantly: @MC_RME didn't say a word to clarify the rumour (what he often does when people asking when ADI-2 will be replaced/updated).

Looks like either some ADI-3 range is around the corner, or this whole family is just ending without any replacement (very unlikely, IMHO).

Afaik the naming has a logic: analog digital interface 2 channel. So probably the suffixes are going to change with the new version.

Damn and my wallet will cry again ;)

I think the Topping DX5 II was a warning in many areas, like more powerful HP amp, better converter chip, trigger outs and costing a fraction. Yes, its software and features are still behind, and build quality is also worse. But the former can be gradually improved with tons of firmware upgrades and new apps, while the latter hopefully they are learning and improving too. And pricing always a lot more aggressive.

So IMO it was about time to overhaul the ADI-2 line and catch up where it was needed, while still keeping their strengths elsewhere.

And pricing always a lot more aggressive.
Making product in Europe boost the price and it's extremely hard to be competitive in this area with Chinese companies, labor and resources costs are much much higher.

ps. I don't really want to go into politics/geopolitics but Europe has a problem(s)....in the long run it's a huge problem.
