As the title states, I was wonder if anyone had an opinion if I'd notice any difference in the Oppo BDP-93's sound if I added a Schiit Modi 3 DAC?

You would most certainly not notice a difference, provided you listen without bias and with precisely matched levels.

Where you would notice a difference is when adding room correction to your system, like for example with a WiiM Pro or Pro Plus.

More expensive, yes, but so worth it if you didn't have room correction before.

Thanks. I'm still reviewing DACs for the Oppo. I think I might be going with the:

S.M.S.L SU-1

My system is has been trimmed down to two channel. Running a Finale F-138 with upgrades tube amp, Rega P3 TT w/ Denon 103R MC cart and the Oppo. Emotiva loudspeakers--forget model. Oppo has been sitting for years and decided to go back lightly into my SACD and CD collection.

When I hit 60 I'm hoping multi-channel ops are easy to stream. Until then I'm sticking with the 2 channel gear.

The WiiMs are 2 channel room correction + DAC combo units :)

Given that you’re running a tube integrated amp in your system, you might not notice it if the you ran the Oppo BD through a 10¢ DAC.

The BDP-93 has really good DAC and output stage.

Running it through a tube amp is tantamount to running its video output through a 30 year old, 19”, CRT television.

Yes, thought of that. I have solid state DIY amp on closet that I sometimes plug in. Frankly, I'm just looking to try something new and see if there's a difference. This isn't a mission to find the perfect pure sound. I'd invest in the best recordings first and ditch the tube amp an upgrade my speakers if I was on that mission.

I have an Oppo 103. It is connected to the preamplifier via RCA and also to the DAC via coaxial. If I listen to a CD, when I switch the inputs on the preamplifier with the remote from the DAC to the Oppo, I don't notice any difference, even the level is exactly the same.

Only if the dac is broken/non functional in the Oppo

I've been eyeballing them. That is cool they offer 2 channel room correction. I'll go check them out. Thanks!!

Never heard of an internal DAC being broken in 30 years of owning over 100 components with DACs inside them or external DACs. This common and I'm just lucky?

LOL no, I'd say it's really rare. Why so many units with internal dacs or external dacs for that matter?
