Active Room Treatment (ART) by Dirac

Is there any info in which product will be implemented? I only know storm audio, and their processor cost like a car. What the hell
No manufacturers have made any announcements...

As I typed that, I realised other messages had already pointed out manufacturers that have announced "possible support"

So things are starting to trickle out.... nothing firm yet, but promising!

For sure. When I see audio products that do clever/new things (or not so clever/new things) computationally, my first thought is usually "but I already have a really nice computer, can I do it on that?"

That would be my perfect world - but issues with decoders, proprietary encryption and protection systems etc.... make it difficult and expensive on a PC....

There should be some integrated multichannel "AVP" software for PC - which would include Dolby, DTS, RoomEQ, and support as many channels as the user hardware supports and the user wants (or is willing to pay for)....

Yes that's certainly true.

For example, I get by with Apple Music and TV (plus some additional channels) for source material (so stereo/multichannel lossless/Atmos for the former and stereo/multichannel Atmos but not lossless for the latter) plus Sonarworks for DSP. I may try Dirac for bass control and active room treatment in the future. That means a subscription for content (plus anything I purchase separately and add to the library) and a fee for the DSP.

There are limits to content (Balkanisation of streaming services and stuff that's hard to get) and channels (14 I think, not sure about the maximum Atmos config) obviously. Sometimes available content (video more often than music) disappears from the service/s I use and goes elsewhere if I haven't bought it already. Not a perfect world but ok for the most part. Considering the computer/s are a sunk cost, the additional costs are modest. Your mileage will vary, of course.

But without the additional third-party software things would be less ideal. Being able to run DSP on the computer streamlines things immensly.

No, even with 2.2 the result with ART was much better than with DLBC. Subs were placed besides the mains, no placement "optimizations". Subs played to 150Hz, subs low pass was disabled.
But of course not all rooms and speaker placements are similar. I just know that in my room/setup the difference was big. Currently testing with 7.0. setup.
Interesting. Thanks!

Do we know yet which devices will support Dirac ART after it's not exclusive to Storm audio anymore?
Marantz confirmed that it will be available on the AV10 but I haven't heard anything from other brands

Did they? I’ve read only that they were considering it but not confirmed. It’s probably not allowed at this point to announce it because of StormAudio exclusivity period.

I've seen this upgrade plan:
Dirac-Live-Unterstuetzung-Phasen-Denon-und-Marantz-GrobiTV.webp

And this page also confirmed Dirac ART for Marantz:
Darüber hinaus steht nun offiziell fest, dass die Marantz AV 10 im nächsten Jahr auch das Dirac Active Room Treatment (ART) erhalten wird
Translates to:
Furthermore, it has now been officially confirmed that the Marantz AV 10 will also be equipped with Dirac Active Room Treatment (ART) next year.

As for Dirac Live Active Room Treatment (DLART), this will not be available at release for the NAD M66. However, we do intend to add support for DLART to the M66 at a later date via a firmware update.

I wonder how expensive the upgrade will be. DLBC is already ~800€.
If ART is 1000€ or more it will be more than half the cost of the AVR (Cinema 50 is about 1800€ here)

I also hope the JBL SDP-55 and 58 will get ART. It's the only 'affordable' AVP that has digital outputs.
Not that I can afford it at all but the all digital Genelec folks here will probably apprechiate it

Harman for sure will do it just hope they won’t do it with new products lol

I'm not sure if the M66 really needs ART.
2.4 channels is not a lot for a sound cancelling system like Dirac ART
