Active Room Treatment (ART) by Dirac

Better yet, I strongly recommend trying Magic Beans True Target to find the right target curve for your room and equipment. No more guesswork.
Tell me more. Why is it better to find the right curve for my room rather than finding the right filter for my room to create a desired target curve?

I would really appreciate some opinions from you more knowledgeable folk on why I might not be enjoying this sound. The measurements, to me, look good.

It is very difficult to compare when the graphs are separate like that. Please upload your MDAT (you need to ZIP it first). I'll take a look and compare them for you. Please clearly indicate which measurement is which.

Would someone mind sharing how to measure your speakers in room like this with REW? I have my Umik for Dirac Live and ART. Like to share my before and after with my system. See signature.

I have a 2024 MacBook with HDMI out. No Windows laptop. The channel mapping is very frustrating from past attempts that had I given up.

Please read this thread.

Can you please post a screen shot of what channels REW sees when you connect your Macbook to your AVR?

Thank you for this. I’ll give it a read this week and hopefully have a couple hours on Sunday to give it a short.

If I can, I’ll hook the HDMI and send the screenshot ahead of time.

Appreciate your support.

If the only speaker you’re using to support your L&R mains is your subwoofer, why would you expect any other speakers to be playing in support? You decide which speakers will support other speakers in your ART calibration. I have excellent stereo playback with ART in my system, but I have several support speakers for my L&R mains and they all play when running in stereo.

The results should be the same regardless of mode, but they aren't. I'm concerned that setting it to stereo mode might affect stereo music. In my testing, the measurements differed between 7.1-channel and stereo modes. Try changing the receiver mode and measuring with rew to see what I mean. I believe the results should be the same regardless of the front-channel speakers.

This happened to me too when I tried to switch to another slot WHILE the software was loading a new filter. Haven't had any problems once I learned not to do that.

I will wait for the Dirac slot to be fully converted.

Would would be the recommended support groupings for a 2.2 system?

2x Genelec 8331s
2x SVS SB 1000 pro subs

One sub is near front left speaker, the other sub is rear left.

The Dirac guidance doesn't give a lot of detail.

Unclear if the subs should be in different groups as they're in different locations?

And should all speakers support all others? The 8331s go down to 50hz or so.

Put each pair of subs in a different group.

Put each sub in a different group? I only have 2 subs
2x is usually shorthand for having two of something. Dirac ART documentation says subs of different types go in different groups. Subs of extremely different room placement go in different groups. 4 Genelec subs all in corners is a 1 group system. 3 Genelec subs with 2 in corners and one on a side wall is a 2 group setup. 2 Genelec subs in corners and one SVS sub in a corner is a 2 group system.

It seems to me like the separate groups thing is only if you want to impose different restrictions for each group member, such as limiting one subwoofer to 30hz and another to 20hz.

Forgot to link the guide I was talking about. I do agree it's a bit ambiguous. Might need to look at the actual FR measured in room to decide whether speakers belong together or not.

Not just the in room but also headroom measurements to avoid compression/distortion.

Has anyone tried using ART to cancel the noise of projector fan and ventilation/HVAC? Would it work?

Curious to see if anyone tried taking measurements with them switched on to see if the noise level would drop taking those noises out.

FYI: I wrote a cheeky email to Dirac given their many reminders regarding ART and what I think of their pricing for existing customers. They confirmed waiting for Black Friday is a good idea.

Let’s see how good it works with 4 subs and R7 Fronts, R5 rears. Setup

This is an interesting perspective. How would ART know where are your hardware limits if you are sweeping subs at 80dB where most gear will perform admirably, albeit within its frequency range?

Just a question. I continue to progress with my ART implementation and really pleased so far. Delay is not what I expected, but better than I had before, and there are probably limits to how good things can get in large multi-purpose irregular rooms.

Would this be the right thread to read the experiences and results of users that buy the ART license for their devices?
I am interested to see how the reactions and experiences of other users are, before buying a pretty expensive license I cannot cancel if I am not happy with the result

Just contact the support. I did so initially when the measurement mic failed to work properly with Dirac / the receiver. I think it's also possible to transfer the licence(s) to another account with the same hardware listed. Years back sold my Dirac Stereo license and the support was very helpful (Flavio I think).

Once you are happy with your ART calibration, please try another slot with DLBC and do an A/B comparison. I'm curious what the difference is, especially in bass output.
