Very interesting... Can you say more about whether you need to implement any crossovers? I know that the AVP has all of that disabled, but do you run the mains and subs with crossovers "wide open"?

ART handles all filtering. Mains go to around 20-25Hz and subs 20-150Hz, surrounds are set around 45-50Hz (can't remember the exact values). ART sets those based on measurements but the values are adjustable. Haven't noticed any overload issues but I do listen at pretty low volumes and surrounds are not outputting actual multichannel audio, just correction audio.

I have just watched a webinar from Storm Audio and Nilo Casimiro from Dirac answered my question.
Bass control and ART doesnt work together. ART add-on is above Bass control and needs Bass Control to work so you can upgrade from Bass control to ART and some kind of bass control will be already a part of ART add-on. People with Bass control will have an option to upgrade. ART is ideal to replace bulky passve treatment up tp 150Hz. Above that you still need passive treatment. Dirac at some time will extent frequency above 150hz but not at the moment.

Right… so Storm Audio ($10k ouch) will have exclusive rights until the next hardware vendor releases compatible hardware in Q4 2023.

Dirac has no intention on releasing their own hardware box to do this. Understandable.

The only solution is to implement this for the pc then. There are plenty multi-channel dacs that can process these channels, albeit, you’ll still have to figure out things like Dolby Atmos support for the pc.

Overall, as Sancus said, we need this to cost less than $10k. Right now, it’s just a shiny new toy for the rich.

Well, to be honest, it would be nice if DLBC becomes available on more devices as a first step.

I share your hopes, especially since we have a preliminary statement from Denon/Marantz that they are 'considering' ART and that it might come even at the same time as DLBC. Now, given that the implementation of ART is said to be much more complex than the implementation of DLBC (and therefore might require considerable time for firmware development) it could well be that they are already working on it without publicly saying so.

The silence from all manufacturers other than StormAudio might be a consequence of the exclusivity agreement between Dirac and StormAudio. The competitive advantage that StormAudio currently is enjoying from ART would partly be invalidated. If already today some competitors were known to follow in Q4 23 there might be an incentive to 'outwait' StormAudio.

Don't get me wrong, I do not have any private information to base my thoughts on but I think the meagre information that we currently have is still giving good reason to hope.

Dirac has choosen to implement its technology in a slow process but it is like a train you can not stop. DRC and DSP are changing audio world inevitably. Dirac made a huge progess while Acourate and Audiolense are basically at the same place they were 10 years ago with minor improvements. It is worth waiting.

I would buy an atmos pcie dac/soundcard the second it was available.

Marantz still hopes to implement ART. Massimo consumer had a video yesterday where they doubled down on supporting bass control by late 2023 early 2024, and still being in discussions for ART. At least for the AV10, this would be welcome news and a huge selling point for some people. I'm sure by that time, stormaudio will have their hdmi 2.1 implementation, making it the go-to product for high end consumers. If the av10 can introduce it at their 7000 price point, it could be a great selling point. But I wouldn't be surprised if they just wait until 2025 and release a new product with it. Though I'll be a bit disappointed if that happens

Flavio, there is always talk about the advantages of more speakers in co-optimization.
Let's assume that there are two Dali Kore with the appropriate amplification for pure stereo listening available. Do additional speakers for pure stereo listening bring a further advantage or is this more necessary with less powerful speakers?
Has this been tested once?

I'm also wondering if Dirac makes all speakers available at all times, so the processor actually sees a 7.4.4 lpcm if it's stereo or 5.1. Wondering how that works exactly

No matter how big/good your main speakers are or if listening just stereo source: more speakers = better ART result. ART will use all connected speakers to send correction signals. (But the actual usable correction speaker count may be limited by DSP power of your AVP/AVR).
