Thing about all these Dirac product is the actual calculation of the filters (which is the really processing power intensive part of the process) occurrs in their own server. Your computer/receiver just does the measurements and runs the filters, neither of which is that processing power intensive even for the most elaborate and extensive filters. So, yeah, any version of Dirac should work on any home computer. Home computers will not decode Atmos, DTS-X, or Auro 3D, but legacy codecs will work, and all versions of Dirac should work with them.

So are you saying if the user running Dirac must be connected to the net for Dirac Live to calculate filters? Or are you saying Dirac's servers calculate the filters as I was originally responding to?
Here is Dirac calculating DLBC filters while the device is in Airplane mode. It successfully completed the process. Before starting the filter calculation Dirac's cpu usage was below 1%.
Is there a different test you would like me to try or wait and see if @Flak weighs in?

Most other room correction solutions are integrated in the equipment. Dirac Live combines the CPUs in your PC or smartphone with our cloud backend when calculating the absolute best solution. The resulting room correction filters run in the equipment. That means almost unlimited computational horsepower. Dirac Live isn’t limited by the chipset that a manufacturer designed into their equipment.
If it works without internet then it's possible it just falls back to local only calculations if it can't access the cloud. Whether that produces results just as good or not, who knows? The main point is that there's no need for significant computational power on the avr/audio hardware/whatever.

I guess it can do calculations on the local resource, but the larger point does remain-- that it will make use of it's own servers if connected to the internet to create an optimal solution for even the most complex situation. In any case, your own computer will not limit you from using any of their solutions provided you have the license for the module.

Another option was to disconnect the modem from the web so the lan would stay available to the laptop. My wife was watching a show at the time and I thought it best not to ask her to take one for the team.

Maybe - I expect that the increase in computational requirements might be non linear.... so double the speakers might take 4x the amount of computation.... which would quickly result in unreasonable calculation time locally, but would be handled easily by a server farm.

Flavio, there is always talk about the advantages of more speakers in co-optimization.
Let's assume that there are two Dali Kore with the appropriate amplification for pure stereo listening available. Do additional speakers for pure stereo listening bring a further advantage or is this more necessary with less powerful speakers?

Not sure if it’s language barrier but questions I feel were slightly misunderstood.
I’ve seen in another interview that Art supposedly will use multiple subwoofers for cancelation as well - which would answer the most important question - do we need full range towers for the system to work best. But I still haven’t seen something closer to a white paper and there is a lot of “I think this and that” seemingly unconfirmed statements. I wonder if anything will be released by Dirac or Storm so we have better understanding of it’s strengths and limitations.
Also still haven’t heard whether the measurement process will differ - only in listening space or around the room - for the latter it would need probably to be able to position speakers in space relative to MLP.
I can’t imagine Harman not to implement this since it’s JBL+Maestro+Arcam involved using similar firmware. United sound will most likely take longer as they need to catch up on other implementations first. I would assume it might not be enabled on current lineup ( except the flagships).
Since it’s implied - base management is replaced by Art in full would the former implementation be required for Art to work or could they skip it and go for it right away perhaps.

It's exactly the same as with normal Dirac, only difference is minimum allowed measurements. It's speakers+1 i.e. if you have 7.2 system, you have to do 10 measurements.
Hi @TimoJ thanks for engaging w/ this thread. Can you say more about the hardware and computer setup that you are using to run in standalone mode and how that is working for you? Can you say more about the way that you are implementing standalone Dirac without saying anything that you are bound to keep confidential about ART in general? The reason I am asking is because it sounds to me like the fastest way to access ART for the average person might be to implement with a multichannel soundcard and standalone (versus waiting for firmware updates that may never come).

Using Windows computer and audio via HDMI to my AVP that has all processing/upmixing/bassmanagement disabled, so it's more like 8 channel DAC. ART setup is similar to how Dirac Live Processor PC/Mac software works. I'm using Kodi and currently output just 2 channel audio to the ART software and that outputs 8 channels via HDMI to my AVP (no upmix, 2ch for stereo audio and others are outputting just those correction sounds). This causes issues since HDMI is hard mapped to certain channels and so I have to connect my second sub to center channel output when using 6.2 setup. And there is 8 channel limit because of HDMI.
Very interesting... Can you say more about whether you need to implement any crossovers? I know that the AVP has all of that disabled, but do you run the mains and subs with crossovers "wide open"?
