Accuphase power amplifier with Wharfedale Linton Heritage speakers

Is there anything inherently wrong with going with a tube amp like the Luxman MQ-88uC? Or a power tube amp in general?
Price. Basically, these are re-hashed 1950 designs, but at 2024 pricing. Performance is likely OK within the VERY restricted power limit. For that money, you can buy 8-10 channels of far better amps with an order of magnitude more power, or one two-channel amp and keep $5000 in your pocket. They'll also be cooler and more reliable. Not as pretty as the Lux, if that's worth an extra $5k+ to you.

So really good points and I completely agree. That seems to make sense and that's just totally unjustifiable. So Luxman tube is out. Sounds quality is obviouslyy priority, but will admit that I do want it to look good as well. It's on display and I think a nice amp is a piece of art. I adore the look of tube amps too. So, where too from here? Well, there's Cayin, and Prima Luna (power or integrated I don't care). There's something different like a pair of the Synthesia Roma 98DCs. There's second hand Accuphase amps which look really nice. I love the VU metres. Or, I just don't know...

Why spend so much on an amp instead of speakers?

Because of how well the Lintons tested. I looked at the Klipsch Fortes the JBLs, the Lintons tested better than all of them. Plus the look beautiful as well. It seemed I didn't need to spend anymore on the speakers. I will be getting a sub as well.

So you haven't actually heard them yet? I'd just not spend that much on amplification, and would prefer bass management if using a sub.

The reality: when it comes to tube power amps, quality inevitably means nosebleed prices: the parts are expensive. You can't make a 100W output transformer with good bandwidth for $10. And at the prices good tube amps go for, you're buying a look, a vibe, not sound.

The converse is not true: high price does not always (or even often) equal quality. There's a lot of expensive dung-heaps "designed" by ex-hifi salesmen.

I’d second this. If running 2.1 you need the ability time align and eq.
I have Lintons and a 12” sub and its not a trivial exercise to get right. I am new to the game though.
EDIT: great thread for comparing speakers v price …..
EDIT #2: this one is better:

So I live in a place where I can't test speakers. And if I drove 4 hours to somewhere where I could test them. I really don't see the point because they'd be in a different environment running on a different amp. So I made the assumption to buy the best performing and best measured speakers (in my price range) which was by far the Lintons. Any additional room and bass correction will be easier with speakers that measure very well compared to speakers that don't. Hence, I've purchased the Lintons.

It's ok, I'll figure out the amp stuff myself I guess.

My primitive but reliable/reproducible "time-shifted multiple Fq tone bursts sequence method" for time alignment over SP drivers (in 1 msec precision) at your listening position would be of your interest and reference, I assume. If you would like to know the details, please visit my post here.

Please simply PM me, if you would like to use the "time shifted multiple Fq tone burst test track including sharp time-zero-marker at 15 kHz" which I utilized in that measurement and tuning of time alignment.

Very sorry ohmrum, I had no intention of questioning your decision. I’ve purchased the Lintons myself. I believe I have misread this thread and possibly confused it with another in which nothing had been purchased yet. I really shouldn’t post when at work. Sorry.
