The first ~5 minutes is just a busy flyby of the factory. The content actually starts at 4 min 39 seconds. There are official English subtitles to turn on.

What’s interesting is that Accuphase has a subcontractor that does a lot more than I would have expected!

That made me feel a bit disappointed at first, but this is a 46 minute video, so even when it is starting with a semifinished product made outside of Accuphase, it’s impressive to see all the QC they do afterwards and philosophy of repair.

In a way, it’s like a premium restaurant. They execution of the art is what is special even if it seems to be simple at first.

I feel like the video is quite honest and NOT overly slick marketing. You see the strengths *and* weaknesses of a production line like this.

Edit: The real question is who their subcontractor is. Maybe the “Accuphase” clones we see from China are producing for Accuphase? Maybe it’s actually JVCKENWOOD? It’s so interesting to know that they use a partner company *and* they aren’t shy to disclose that.

At their functional test station, they use normal cords, no snakey oil cables in sight :)

Accuphase is one of my admired brands.

To be honest: I must say that this video won’t actually encourage me towards buying any Accuphase model.

That heavily worn cardboard box at 3:46 min for instance or that pair of glasses »jumping« around the CD drives from 31:05 min on is really nothing I would expect here

I love Accuphase, my favourite brand of all time.

If I had the money I'd be straight out and get their TOTL CD player and pre-power.

It may not measure SOTA but who cares? It's everything high-end hi-fi should be but mostly isn't.

Strange comments.... I don't see any issue.

To be honest, I don't see any problem with using partner company for manufacturing. In house design then outsource manufacturing is standard in the world. Apple does it, why Accuphase can't, especially on the not-so-advanced engineering like making analog amplifier.

I really like the fact that they test products thoroughly, both technical and visual. Even if they manufacture everything in house, there is still an error in manufacturing and it can go unnoticed unless being tested carefully. And their after sales (aka repairing policy) is great also.

If I remember correctly from my economics classes, the networking of small, independent businesses under the umbrella of a single brand has long been typical of the Japanese manufacturing.

Snake oil, just like McCintosh, but at least their gear looks less ridiculous...
