Unfortunately i tried neither (priceAnyone tried Luxman vs Accuphase? Which one is king of the hill?
And will the Topping still be holding it's specs in 40 years? Most of my gear has. That is the thing: I buy with one of my criteria being 'what do I expect it's lifetime to be'.The Accuphase C-280’s performance is insane!
I guess, now, it would be the perfect timing for @amirm to release the measurements of Toppings flagship, the Topping A900:

Topping A900 released: insane beast
https://shenzhenaudio.com/collections/new-arrivals/products/topping-a900-headphone-amplifier-preamplifier All the specs are overkill. Crazy power, crazy low distortion, crazy dynamic range. Plenty of inputs and outputs. Topping didnt spare anything. As long the QC is good, all hail the over...www.audiosciencereview.com
Yes, very good and essential points; I fully agree with you!And will the Topping still be holding it's specs in 40 years? Most of my gear has. That is the thing: I buy with one of my criteria being 'what do I expect it's lifetime to be'.
If it is audio gear, cars, boats & motors, I expect them to both be serviceable throughout my lifetime and to last my lifetime.
Naturally, these requirements usually eliminates a lot of less expensive gear.
Buy once & be happy that you are not contributing to the landfill. That is worth the few extra $'s to me.

Accuphase, and it isn't close, IMO.Anyone tried Luxman vs Accuphase? Which one is king of the hill?
Well, spending the most money doesn't usually get you there, either. But buying as cheap as possible is very unlikely to get you there, too.Agreed, if you have the money, go for it, especially this one just proofed it's value
Unless you are an early adopter, after a year or so, you can research & suss out whether it's built to last & how hard repairs will be.I would base purchase decisions on measured performance, the components don’t know how much they retail for.

I would not.I would base purchase decisions on measured performance, the components don’t know how much they retail for.

I think there's a knock-off of this on AliExpress for circa $400. Wish someone would buy it and send to Amir for testingNever understood this drooling over extremely expensive gear and all those adjectives people throw up at the gear....
Yes it's good.
It f***** ought to be. It's like coming to conclusion that Rolls-Royce is actually better built then a Nissan Micra.
You know what impresses me ? Building a piece of audio gear that doesn't costs like a brand new small car and doing it on the budget many can afford
Yeah, I am that crazy.
Link? Maybe I’ll send it to Amir.I think there's a knock-off of this on AliExpress for circa $400. Wish someone would buy it and send to Amir for testing
And most blatant of all:The choice varies daily but here is what I found today:
I just want to make it clear that I'm not endorsing Aliexpress and these knock-offs, but am only responding to the request for links from a member regarding them. I also stated that these items vary from day-to-day on Aliexpress so, by chance, only one was of a preamp. Also, only one of the three components had the Accuphase logo on its escutcheon and is, therefore, culpable for the counterfeit charge.Ok, these are not only preamplifiers.
The one preamp does not have a phono stage
Counterfeit products can’t be imported to CH without a high risk of very high fine, and of course immediate destruction of the product.
What a beauty. Thanks for sharing.I everyone, please excuse my bad English. I'm the friend of Florent alias NTTY. I just want to say publicly many thank's to Florent for the job he done.
I know that is a lot of work. Of course I said to Florent you've got free hands to push the measurements, because if not it won't be funny.
About this fabulous C-280 I can say that it work and match perfectly with is cousin the P-500. The conclusion is that this piece of art for me is probably
the end of the game. It's a little bit sad, but I follow testing some gears which have interest for me. In terms of ratio price/quality/performances/pleasure it's for sure
the best investment I've done.
