After running YPAO calibration in my living room, the room corrected playback sounds muffled and lifeless compared to the Pure Direct mode. Has anyone found that their ears gradually acclimated to apparently bad sounding room calibration? How long did it take to adjust?

I have a Yamaha R-N1000a in my living room with NHT Superone fronts and an ELAC 3030 sub.

Did you double-check the result of YPAO calibration using HouseCurve for example?

No point in trying to acclimate if the correction is just poor.

There's definitely a period of getting used to any changes. Specifics may vary. The first time I sat in an automobile driver's seat and played music, it all sounded completely wrong and off-balance, because I was closer to the left speakers than the right. Over the years, I've grown used to it, and now I'm guessing that the brain compensates, no need to adjust balance. Same with frequency/corrected playback.

I don't have a iPhone so no. I have calibrated YPAO several times and the results are consistent. Unfortunately these two channel YPAO amps don't seem to have the HTTP access to view or adjust the curves. Basically it's EQ on or off in the Music cast app.

Quite a few people don’t like YPAO, especially relative to better models like DIRAC. Watch the recent Erin’s Audio Corner video where he reviewed a $3k Yamaha amp and said YPAO isn’t any good.
