A Thread Dedicated to Cirrus Logic CS43131

More details on TRN website: https://trn-audio.com/trn-black-pearl.html

This appears to be another variant of a TTGK module: CB5100pro bridge/DSP, dual CS43131, 8x PEQ through WalkPlay app.
But $37 is certainly not bad if one is OK with the size.
Just ordered one from Linsoul make more cheap 26.2£ i use JM28 and JM20 Max look good think to use with my speakers Edifier M60 and Kiwi Ellipse they so good be wait and see i like so much my sound with use DTS X headphones for senheiser 650 on ellipse with JM20 Max

So you ordered the TRN Black Pearl?
When it comes can you quickly check how many volume steps it has and if the pc operative system volume slider actually changes volume or not?
Thank you in advance :)

Please use a bit of punctuation, your sentence are hard to understand.
I'll be glad if you could answer to my asking when the Black Pearl arrives.
Thank you.

is so good killed my jcally M20 Max u can see video is 90 steps volume control so loud and clear sound a bit surprised so quality is just uploaded now this on low volume to not annoyed neighbours because the Edifier M60 is so loud

Thank you for reporting back on this, so OS volume slider is working, very nice. As for the volume steps, I was referring to the hardware volume button the device, keeping the OS volume at max, how many clicks it takes to go from min to max. Ad an example, my Sonata BHD takes 30 steps.
Sorry, but as already advised, I can't fully understand you without the slightest sign of punctuation.

TRN Black Pearl is great is much better not like my Jcally M20 Max who make hot and can confirm work with walkplay app and u can change DACS to class AB or H, Low or High gain make screenshot is great DAC so happy and many filters and EQ for 26£ 7days delivery take to Linsoul to delivered to me

Does both JM20-Max and Black Pearl support Walk Play?

i wonder if the gain switch function would be useful to people suffering with ear-murdering pops with sensitive IEMs.

The JM20 and JM20-Max do not (Savitech USB bridge I believe), the JM20-Pro and Black Pearl (see above) are WalkPlay-enabled (CBHT-Audio / SpaceTouch USB bridge + DSP).

The gain switch is always nice-to-have. I was thinking more about hissing issue, but good point on 'pops' issues. For example, each time I change a PEQ parameter on my JM20-Pro, there is a mild, but annoying, click/pop on the IEMs I use (not particularly sensitive).

To be honest sticking to 1V remains the default choice for avoiding both of those issue when driving sensitive IEMs. No configuration needed-it just works. The great thing is that there is a large selection of both 1V and 2V dongles for near the same price so one could choose either based on need, or buy one of each types for little money.

OTOH if someone's already has a 2V dongle and wants to use it to drive sensitive IEMs then configurable gain modes will be useful.

Does anyone have the schematics of the cs43131 dongles with opamp? (The output stage is enough) I have a Meizu non pro that I am willing to use as DAC ic donor for a project that includes a headphone amp, but want it to have the extra juice.
I have searched around but I couldn't find any.

To confirm that. Could you play Beats test file from my #304 post, record it and show Spectrogram with Audacity with magnification of timeline like on my screenshot, Just L channel is sufficient. You can magnify to have like 7 beats 3 from area with additional signal and 4 from are with just beats (it is in the middle of Beats file) - make it like my screenshots for easier comparison. My test DAC with 2xCS43198 + Amp (not SGM but it does not matter) shows gradient stripped pattern of the noise floor.

The whole story with CS chip is not about inability of developer reading specs it is about DAC chip which shows nasty noise pattern which to my opinion is not about Class H behavior but a workaround for the low frequency of CS DAC chip (ESS and AKM chips operate at 2x higher frequency) and too close noise from the noise shaper which is lowered by the chip's RMS method (which is causing high-frequency distortion if gain is raised rapidly) - thus we see gradient-like noise image on Spectrogram with beats only and light lines (high frequency distortion, I showed it on waveform) for every beat.

We can continue with this in dedicated CS thread as proposed by @mc.god, please poke me when you got measurement done.

@dmitrykos
I'm continiung here the discussion from the other thread.
I tried what you asked with my Sonata BHD (3.5 output, high gain, hardware volume at max), recording through the crappy onboard audio of my old laptop, I set audacity to record at 24 bit 192 KHz, this is the spectrogram of the recorded file (L channel only), but honestly I think there is something wrong with my setup since it is much different from what you posted

please give me further instructions on how to fully replicate the test. If the issue is the bad quality of ADC then I cannot help at the moment.
Thank you :)

Uhm, never mind... lol, I didn't listen to the recording before, now I heard it is heavily clipped and found out that the input jack of my laptop only works as a mic input, so the recording is not significative...

I have an old Sound Blaster X-Fi 5.1 usb card, so tried with it, is should support 48k an 96k but for some reason it doesn't let me record at 96k (Audacity hangs trying it), so only 48k. Now the recording sounds ok, but the spectrogram only reach to 24k, here it is the result that again, appears very different from your (don't know if now the issue is the scale to 24k)

Well ok, I think that my gear is too much limited to be of help, but if anything can be concluded from this test It would have been worth.

Because I like to be different, I Played the file in Izotope RX11, recorded via RME ADI-2 in Reaper at 192kHz 32bit PCM and then used Izotope to display the spectrogram. All 100% output recordings were normalised to the same level, the 50% & 25% I left alone. Output devices were set to 44.1k 32 bit except for the Apple dongle which was limited to 24bit. Amplitude range of the graph is -10 to -160dB.

Got myself a Jcally JM20 Pro to get both the PEQ and mic/button support for my Truthear Gate, and yup it's working as expected and sound just the same as the regular JM20!
Don't fully trust a random chinese .apk though, but not much to do if I want that PEQ, but at least I registered with a temp mail.. The PEQ does it's job and is not to hard to work with, only thing is that it's only peak filters, so no shelves unfortunately. Also when I connect the dongle and allows Walkplay to manage it the microphone buttons stop working, but that's not a to big of a deal.

The only thing now I have to so something about is that ugly light blue of the dongle, gonna have to use some tape and heat shrinking tubing to make it blend better with the headphone cable and phone.

There is also a webapp: https://peq.szwalkplay.com. You still have to login to use it, but this could be an alternative to the apk.
Ah there's a web app that can access the dongle? Does that work on the computer as well? Tough I did forget what tempmail I used so I can't log in with that anymore :D
