A talk for the local skeptics community

Just slap the "Quantum" label on your tweak and you've got an instant market.

Amazingly, an instant market for just about anything, in any product category, you slap the quantum label on.

It works because the general public has no idea what it actually means. Much like the term crypto.

Ah, the ultimate irony. A quantum difference is often the least significant difference. For those truly pedantic, that would be things such as a Plank length difference.

This happens the third Thursday at Razzi's in Greenwood. You need to sign up for MeetUp, join the skeptics group, and then sign up for this if you want to be there.

BUT I doubt this is in you guys ballpark, it's pretty obvious to you.

I see your problem, so much stuff to choose from. I would start pointing out some ridiculous examples just to prove snake oils exists, then I would focus in the most common things that reasonable intelligent people tend to spend money and turns out to be a waste; in my case: too much money spent in HD tracks, speakers and headphones that looks good and have great YouTube subjective reviews, without checking if objective measurement exists.

You definitely can't throw a stick without hitting a company that makes "high-end" interconnects, speaker cables and/or power cables.

Here's a list of some of the more oily companies I've seen so far:

And that's just scraping the surface. You can find a lot of the truly nutty stuff in this web shop:

A lot of this "Snake Oil" stuff tend to be from cable manufacturers, which actually makes sense sort of ;)

I can't think of another hobby that scientific knowledge and obvious common sense can be so easily cast aside by reasonably intelligent people. "Audiophiles" can certainly be a gullible bunch!

The local skeptics community has asked me to give a talk on "audiophile stuff", prompted by my putting a pointer to the "cable burner" into their group page on facecrook.

So, if you're so minded, how about you send me a link (Put it in this thread, perhaps) pointing me to your favorite slice of bologna?
Anything that just has a single wire going into it - eg "grounding boxes"

Audiophile ethernet switches. This is my personal nails against the chalkboard item.

If you need data outlining why it is impossible for ethernet switches to sound different, I can provide. But the most obvious 2 are:

1 - sound does not exist where ethernet exists
2 - ethernet switches are incapable of making the organized changes to music files that would be needed to impact the sound of the music file.
