A FiiO S15 overview "review"

got it - I was referring to the 4k 120hz. Speaking of remotes, meridian is the worst( their app to remote is also bad) i wrote a simple serial processor code and UI to control it from my mac. https://github.com/listaction/simple-meridian-remote

Apple Music (side-loaded) is bit-perfect on HDMI. So is Emby, Plex, VLC when I use them to play back my standard and hi-res FLAC files.
Hi, I tried my Shield into the Bryston DAC with both USB and HDMI, both set to match content audio resolution. The only app that passed 192khz-24bit was Amazon Music. I tried Plex and VLC and both were stuck at 48k. I am stumped… Also, where did you get the apple apk? Thanks!

Started a different convo on this topic so that this thread can stay focused on the Fiio S15. If anyone else is interested in further discussion on using the Shield TV Pro for audio playback, just let me know so I can add you guys to that convo.

Yes, Apple Music Hi-Res works. It works even on my Fiio M23 DAP, which is on Android 10. Fiio have got that well figured out.

But as I mentioned in post #22, it doesn't look perfect on the horizontal screen.

Have you or could you check to see if the S15 can pass Apple Music native hi-res lossless (up 192khz) out its digital coax?

Eversolo a6 claims to be able to, but I've never had luck with it. It passes 192khz out via USB but I haven't been able to exceed 48khz out coax no matter what combination of settings I try.

Yes, it can:

Hi All,
just found this topic, it seems a miracle as I am looking exactly for a streamer that reproduce Apple Music on the screen.
Yes, it can:
Hi, if I can disturb you do you know if at the moment only S15 and Eversolo can do this? between S15 and Eversolo A6/8/10 (even gen2 of gen6) is S15 techically superior? I can't find precise information on this.
Thanks you for your help :)

Had mine since Thursday. Software needs some work as it has some issues, but worked with Roon out the box even if not fully certified and works with any Android UPnP app well. Fiios own Music app is flakey and crashes a lot, and the display times out and drops to screensaver mode of off after 30mins max. So the VU or now playing seem wasted.

The unit sure does subjectively sound very good. It’s very well built too. For me I find it subjectively more satisfying driving my power amp than my RME ADI 2 DAC gen2 over XLR with my FiiO SR11 connected to it by USB. This could be just a better gain match to my amp or it genuinely is a leap up, it certainly feels like one for me. I just hope they support it better, sent an email to support and posting on other forums they go on but not had any decent reply from them yet. Software wise I feel the Eversolo betters it at least their app works on iOS can’t get the screencast thing to work on iOS at all sadly.

Hello, does the device have input autodetection? I turn on the TV connected via HDMI arc and the FiiO S15 automatically turns on? Is it then possible to control the volume on the TV and the sound is amplified on the FiiO S15? (I don't want to use the remote from the FiiO S15)

Auto sensing

Not that I know of. It doesn’t have HDMI CEC control so it can’t turn on TV anyway or control the volume. Not tried it though as I have no use for it via HDMI.

Hello... I just purchased the S 15. I cannot log into my Apple Music account. The touch screen when touched just locks up. I hope I haven't intruded into a forum incorrectly about my struggle with Apple Music with my FiiO S 15.

I have a question for anyone that owns this that I haven't seen answered yet. I've been looking at dacs, and had pretty much narrowed it down to either the SU-10 or the Musician Pegasus II, but this came onto my radar and it looks like the dac section is pretty good, with a pretty robust power supply. The streaming features would really be useful for my work listening setup. How would the dac section compare to the two that I mentioned above? There are very few reputable reviews so far.

Any input would be truly helpful.

the sound quality of the FiiO S15 blew me away! I did not expect such a solid, faultless sound from a $999 streamer! I used cables in the review system that cost more than the FiiO S15!

So I purchased it and it arrived today. So far I love it. I have been using it with Amazon Music HD. One oddity that I have noticed, regardless of the sample rate of the Amazon track, the now playing screen (Screensaver) shows the sampling rate as 192khz. Odd.
