A FiiO S15 overview "review"

Learnt from their support that it has

HDMI 2.0, so no 4k 120Hz passthrough.
No eARC
No HDMI-CEC

Has PEQ
Has AES/EBU out
Decent/diverse Bluetooth codec support

Not sure about if apple music can run natively off it's custom android 12 OS. I think eversolo might be the only one that has it working? I do read people saying some APKs work and some other versions don't. Shoddy support I guess.

Looks very interesting, price will probably @ the same level as EverSolo DMP-A8 ,if not a bit higher, hopefully Amir can get one to test soon:)
1188€ (taxes and delivery included) in France. 1000$ in USA. Significantly less expensive than Eversolo A8.

Indeed, i did not expect this, very interesting if performance is as advertised!

Directly competing with Bluesound node icon and they both seem to be providing more value than the eversolo A8/A10 from a pure feature standpoint at that $999 price.

Bluesound is definitely smaller, has HDMI CEC, significantly more mature app, likely more mature firmware. Fiio has that nice AES out, PEQ and diverse bluetooth codec support but their software isn't generally the best based on other members of this and other forums. After sale support from Bluesound likely also better based off how active their respective forums are.

"Major" differences between S15 and Icon; each will answer distinct sets of requirements. I don't need Sub w out or Dirac room correction (I rely on Genelec GLM). I don't need analogue In. I need AES/EBU digital out (Genelec 8361) and analog XLR out (FOSI amp + passive vintage Acoustics Design speakers). I "prefer" AKM DAC vs ESS. Roon only interface (Qobuz and Synology NAS). No headphones connexion on S15 but serious headphones listeners would connect a dedicated DAC/Amp. Various offerings for various needs; good for us. Ordered one S15!

Oy vey.

Is the hdmi out audio only or is there some kind of on-screen display?
I also try to find an answer to this question. There is one HDMI out and one HDMI ARC (not eARC). On one picture (marketing) there is another screen next to S15, showing album jacket playing; nothing more.

I have the fiio K19, and it seems it's a carbon copy implementation in the S15. 4k 60hz max out due to HDMI 2.0. I saw it I think on a thread on their Facebook page.

I need AES/EBU digital out (Genelec 8361).

I am also in a similar need, but still trying to find out if their PEQ can even work for the digital out. Their forums are not useful and support takes days to get back.

Reading other threads, a wiim or blue sound with USB out + a cheap AliExpress USB --> AES converter might work. I am going to try this setup. For wiim the PEQ does work for USB out.

That being said, unlikely I will hear any audible differences in using analog or digital in for genelecs.

A simple rca to xlr cable works fine between any coax output and the 8361’s digital input. Running my WiiM ultra in this config as we speak. Works great except for the constant audio dropouts when listening to the hdmi input which is a known issue. Will be a deal breaker for me if they can’t fix it in firmware.

So is there an on-screen display or not?

I haven't tried, but for the K19: https://www.fiio.com/newsinfo/908614.html
Seems like an in-built hdmi 2.0 splitter/audio extractor.

Also good to know about the WiiM issue, that's a deal breaker for me too.

i'm surprised its 'only' $1,000

but its going up against the dmp=a6 and i'm guessing support is going to be a lot worse than them

and while it has some neat features like AES they seem to be features added that people dont really need and are just there to fill in a spec sheet
