A Call For Humor!

If I was speaking like 'Frank', I'd say "I am Clooless!"

To be honest, I wouldn't know what to call it if I had to put it on the menu. In Chinese 松鼠魚 (songshu yu) literally translates to "squirrel fish" for no good reason. Supposedly it looks like a squirrel after it's fried, but to me it looks more like a hedgehog. It's a filleted fish with the flesh sliced into baton strips whilst still attached to the skin, then deep fried and doused in a sweet and sour sauce. It looks like this:

Here is Wang Gang (IMO the best Chinese chef on Youtube) making the dish. Turn the subtitles on.

Come to think of it: There are squirrels that fly better than chickens!

This is the way it is, today there is no news from Australia. Maybe in a couple days something will happen. Hold tight.

In 2001, I was working in Alice Springs. In case you don't know where that is:

It was an absolutely bizarre town, a microcosm of Australia itself. Just like Australia is mostly empty with glittering cities around the coast where all the wealth is concentrated and elites can fool themselves into thinking they live in a first world country, Alice Springs is mostly crushing poverty with a huge crime ridden indigenous population with one glittering strip where you would think you were in any other Australian city.

Despite all the regular violence, drunken brawls, murders, rapes, and robberies, the local news ignored all those issues because they didn't want to talk about crime committed by a certain ethnic group. So the news used to read: "Cat stuck on tree, rescued by firefighters". Or ... "Driving instructor caught drink driving".

So, when a British tourist was murdered, the Feds sent a dozen officers to investigate. They may as well have swarmed the town. They were everywhere, and the locals couldn't get enough of them. On TV they showed the Feds having dinner at a local restaurant. They had run out of stupid questions to ask, so they asked "How was the food?".

So yeah, that's Australian "news".

About Australia I will say this:

Back then, you got a lot of friends in Freemantle having fine cut rolling tobacco if you got Rizla Blue Kingsize paper....
