'Our 21st Century' --on the opposite coast-- centers around providing demenial work-for-pay to those who lack work-papers.
$50/week gets us a few non-English speakers, whom we 'employ' as our mow-and-blow peeps, so that I can spend that 20 extra (weekly) minutes here!

It's a 'winner-winner' and everyone involved gets to eat 'chicken dinners'!

Probably most (not all) folks around here use a third-party (who are mostly card-carrying Granite Staters ) to cut their grass -- but I like cutting grass & it's not like I have lots of other stuff I have to do.

I do have "a guy" (as we say in this neck of the woods) cut our back field every autumn.



Our farmer-neighbors used to hay it, which was a win-win -- but they drastically cut their dairy herd some years back and need far less hay than they used to.

PS You know it's gettin' to be time to get the field cut when you can barely see the bears out there...

Let me be perfectly clear, right up front.
This is not an attempt to twist the wonderful little slice of paradise that is this thread into a show us your lawn care tools -- if for no other reason that inspection of our lawn would immediately reclassify the thread as don't let this happen to you!

Ahem. At any rate, I was doing some 'trimming' out front with a "push" (i.e., non-self-propelled, walk-behind) lawnmower. The bulk of the grass is cut with a ride-on lawn tractor mower thingy, but the push mower comes in very handy for nooks, crannies, and 'edges'. The cheap gasoline-powered mower I bought when we moved up here developed some recalcitrance a month or so ago, so I retired it (at least temporarily) and purchased a new one for the same role.

As I walked back to the shed to get my string trimmer (which I had, characteristically, forgotten), I was struck by the tableau formed with the new lawnmower... so, when I got back (and finished cutting the weeds around two crabapple trees), I took a photo with my phone (camera of last resort, for me).

Here's the humor.
I finally feel like it is the 21st Century. No jetpack, but at least I have a lawnmower that looks, and sort of sounds, like something George Jetson* would've** used to cut his grass. I mean, you know, if he had grass to cut.

As both Red Dwarf and the Hitchhiker's books have discussed, verb tenses get sort of complicated when time travel is involved.

We should also have a thread for "What are Your Most Dreaded House Chores".
Yard work (*Grass, *Snow). Kitchen duties (*Dishes, *Cooking). Laundry (*Zzzzzzzzzzz).

Some men deal with such things by calling them 'therapeutic': I am in the belief that such chores are the definition 'insanity'!
"... and when the morning light comes streaming in, I'll get up and do it again... Amen, say it again, Amen"!

There are very few components that are UNIQUE in a very wide ranging price class. I just love cheap and clean-SQ gadgets that target a single or at least very narrow use case. I though even if this thread collects very diverse examples it should be of interest I'm especially thinking devices...
