I would be so proud if I had taken that photo. I feel bad for grandpa who was hospitalized but grateful to all involved including him, the bison, the photographer and the news for widely publishing this absolutely perfect shot.

Sorry, if I had read more carefully before posting I could have told you that his name is Carl McDaniel. According to the Cascadia Daily News he wears a lot of hats, just not in this or the other photo. Or many it came off as he was running away from the beast.

That bison was in a very bad mood. There's video of the whole thing. It's actually pretty horrible.

In the NBC video they say they were "taking pictures from a distance". When it comes to Bison, that really wasn't much of a distance.

It is funny in movies with dinosaurs there is almost always a part where they encounter some and one of the people says "It is okay, these are herbivores, they won't hurt us" and they walk right through the group of dinos. I guess they haven't seen Bison, Moose, Rhinos, Hippos....
