Is this a measure of intelligence or one of attention seeking? My wife was chuckling at something on ig yesterday and showed me. It was a compilation of videos of people getting hurt. Kinda gruesome, I thought. Something about hilarious "epic fails". I couldn't help wonder why these videos are being made and published at all. If the goal is to attract attention on social media then making such videos is certainly one way to do that.

I’d say both. It’s attention-seeking and social media is built to reward that. But it’s still “dumb.” The intelligence question, though, is more about the motivation—if they’re making these kinds of videos because they know they’ll get attention, what does that say about what they’re optimizing for?

Idk. Presumably some are trying to be the next MrBeast, who has earned a load of dough optimizing videos for the algorithm, i.e. making them maximally attention seekey/getty. In the country where I live making a load of dough by gaming some system or other like that is not typically described as dumb.
