Woodcocks really, truly, do strut like this... we have them in our fields. They are a hoot (no pun intended, as they don't hoot, they peeent).

They're remarkable little critters. Their return is a sure sign of (very early) spring here in northern New England.
At times, they're not at all hard to see. After mating season, we'll see them more than occasionally truckin' along the edge of the road down past the bottom of our western field.
Even during mating season, one will sometimes see them flying from site to site as they seek a mate. They fly reasonably well (I mean, they do migrate ) but there wings are short and very fluttery in use.

I don’t recall Radio Yerevan ever presenting jokes with photos at the time they were told.
