I still want to know why a direct link in an email to company's website to pay my bill make me identify myself via 2FA. If some rapscallion wants to pay my bill I am not really sure I would have a problem with that.

At least in the EU it is kind of legit - to prevent money launderers and other criminals from paying your bill (yeah I know...)

And companies pays bill’s and also privately owned small companies . White collar crime can get very creative there can be long chains of payments between shell companies and person already ? If someone unknown could pay your bill , it would find some creative use by criminals. The unknown party could be yourself in disguise paying with money you should not have for example
