Nope, it's our road in NH. Closer to Norwich, VT than Calais.
Lots of roads in VT & NH look like that in March.
The big ruts seen near the center in that photo above had devoured our neighbor's AWD VW Jetta wagon the night before.

It's solid state -- built from a PAiA kit as a father-son project a long time ago.
I've thought more than once about building a vacuum tube theremin (on paper, at least, it's pretty straightforward... just a couple of oscillators)... but I am supremely lazy...

Not ours but ours looks very similar, allowing for the brutalist qualities of the case I built for it.
