His quoted observation (EDIT at face value) is an interesting non-example of the old rule of thumb that a 10 degree (C) increase in temperature doubles the rate of a chemical reaction.Smart and interesting guy. I was privileged to work with him a long while back.
Of course, the biochemistry and bionenergetics of living systems is 1) hella interesting and 2) vivid evidence of life kinda flipping the bird at thermodynamics. Also of course, thermodynamics still win(s).
