A Call For Humor!

Holy cow. The magic eye has disappeared from google.

Yes. Used that. dropped a deck of punched cards. there was a telex machine at work but I never used it or saw it used. I did ask about it but nobody knew.

I once had the job of booting and shutting down a PDP8 from its front panel keys.

Am I old yet?

Lovely and effective. I remember, thankfully. My friend, when I was a wee wean, and fairly close neighbor Mark's dad was a BBC broadcast engineer and radio ham with a vast collection of old treasures/obsolete junk. Some of it worked. We had lots of fun with it.

Yeah, when I read that I could only think of magic eye stereograms.

Presumably, I try to steer clear of that black arts but..., I suppose an AI can do a wonderful job along the lines of: create a magic eye stereogram in the style of a Pieter Bruegel the elder woodcut of of a mythological duck walking into a bar with a manticore and a sphinx and asking the nature of the mythnderstanding.

My Sherwood FM tuner(s)* have magic eye tuning indicators of the "waterfall" type. Quite attractive but I've yet to manage to take a very good photo of one.

This image isn't too bad, but it is overexposed with respect to the magic eye (CRT).

The EICO HFT-90 also uses a magic eye tuning indicator, but it's a little counterintuitive. The "exclamation point" is tuned to maximum opening between the line and the dot (so to speak).

There's a nice website with magic eye tube information and pictures (animations).

There's a pretty good simulation of what the tube above 'actually' looks like as it reacts to changing signal strength.
