When I was young in the UK air temperature was F. And some people used, when it was cold, degrees of frost. That's the number of Fs below 0C.

And when I left the UK English pubs still served spirits in units of a fifth of a gill. This is such a small amount that in Scotland a stingy pour of scotch is derisively referred to as "an English measure", i.e. a dirty glass. That was one of the ways that the Scots, people usually generous in their hospitality, would get back at the fraudulent insult English people spread about Scots being stingy.

No images :( but some food for thought from the Green Mountain State.

It may be time for Florida Man to step aside -- Vermont Man is gaining ascendancy!

Not one but two news stories heard on our beloved Vermont Public (https://www.vermontpublic.org/ formerly Vermont Public Radio -- 'til they merged with Vermont PBS) this morning make it clear that Florida has much to fear with respect to its reputation as a haven for men behaving badly.

1) From The Caledonian Record (and, sadly, paywalled): Police on the Lookout for Banana Burgler: The fiberglass fruit, part of the 2025 Franconia ArtWalk, was reported stolen Thursday night from outside Chef Joe's Catering at 651 Main St.
The artist who created the piece is reportedly annoyed, but he added that he finds the thought of someone smuggling a three foot stolen banana "objectively hilarious".

2) From our own local Valley News> and not (currently) paywalled (bless their hearts!): Man faces DUI charge after driving lawnmower in rainstorm on Route 66 in Randolph. A 58-year-old man was charged with riding a lawnmower [in a rain storm] while intoxicated and resisting arrest on Route 66 in Randolph on Saturday morning, Vermont State Police said in a news release.

I am really wondering whether the latter Vermont Man would've walked free if it hadn't been raining. His trial could get interesting.
