I had a Willys ('41 I think) and used to start it with a crank.
For cars with no crank, if the battery was bad, we used to park in a down slope.

My wife, as a teenager, used to just sit in her father’s Fiat Spyder and wait for a boy to come along and give her a push.

I used to do this quite frequently with my 1974 Honda Civic, luckily it was small and very light. I once drove it across the San Fernando valley without a clutch. That was fun.

My 63 Dodge Dart with slant6 and push button transmission would refuse to get reverse sometimes which was a bitch in parking lot. Once when car camping at the Pinnacles National Monument* a guy came running over to help push us out of our spot to ranger station to get firewood. When we came back reverse worked and I'll never forget the look on that guys face as we backed in. I learned later two or three nuetral button pushes resolved the issue mostly.

My best friend had one of those w/ the push-button gear select in that sickly green color, so we named it the green hornet
