Nice, but the meme's picture is not really an "Anti-weed ad from back in the day" but it is the cover picture of the 2013 CD "Front to Back" by the band Wasnach, from Salt Lake City, UT. If you like Reggae and Rocksteady check it out, it is an excellent album

I just can't figure out what exactly is going on here! Is this an improvement on that old gerbil extraction method?

I used to run a few Pizza takeouts.
Believe me, Ham & Pineapple was one of the more popular choices. However, pineapple with anything else was not that popular.
Most popular ingredients were extra cheddar cheese, mushrooms, garlic-butter and jalapeños.

I worked at Red Devil pizza when I was in high school and college in the late 1970's making and delivering pizzas. My first thought reading your post was you must not be in the US - I checked and saw you are in the UK. I was in a suburb of Los Angeles at the time. We had a pineapple and Canadian bacon pizza on the menu that was ordered very, very rarely; I never saw pineapple on another pizza. Cheddar cheese on a pizza - that's sacrilege. Our most popular toppings were pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, onions, mushrooms and extra cheese (mozzarella). Least popular were the aforementioned pineapple and anchovies - everyone hated making anchovy pizzas. Good times.

Extra Cheddar cheese! all pizzas were made with 100% Mozzarella to begin with. Extra Cheddar sprinkle looked good tasted good, try it.

Chicken and pineapple used to sell too.
We had about 15/20 different pizzas, such as Pescatore, Prosciutto, Quattro Stagioni , Tropicana etc.
Say, Tropicana was Ham'n'Pineapple, Pescatore was seafood (Anchovis, Prawns, mussels & black olives) - on which people would add extra toppings, or take away.
Extra Pepperoni was hardly ordered, as we used to carpet it anyways!

Pepperoni, mushrooms, and extra cheese is a perfect pizza, imho.
We have proper Pepperoni (Gyulai Pepperoni) and we have cheap sausage-shaped cardboard pieces (Costco, hint hint).
Passes sighted, blind and double-blind tests (tastes?) any day.
