$9 Headphone Review: Sony MDR-ZX110

they are perfectly fine for laptop listening
They are one of the worst cans I ever heard. With some experience you can detect not so bad "overall tonality" - playing through a thick pillow, and even without that pillow they are colored and distorted.
$20 Senn HD 206 are already on another level (I wish there were some proper measurements to EQ). Even trashy Koss UR-20 are still better.
$20 7Hz Zero IEMs are kinda high end in comparison.
The fit is awful as well. If on-ear is a must then why not Porta Pro, $26 on drop.
If the point is getting a pair of cans for no more than $10 I'd ask myself not about the Sony but about this point: is such economy a good idea.

Did I mention that TWS earbuds costing $20-30 (depending on where you buy them) - Moondrop Space Trawel - just destroy Sony, mentioned Senns 206, Koss and so on in terms of sound quality? Well, they do.

Where do I get free EQ amirm was talking about?
Did you try to read the forum from page #1? ))

Here it is:

i rooted around in my spare audio bits bin and I found I actually own a variation of these:

the "NC" just adds a cheapo ANC circuit powered by a AAA

i never found this set any good at anything except for YT vids etc.

but i'll give it a go with the APO EQ and Amir's settings

No!

Dear sir! I sent you a link twice yet! You should first figure it out on your own, look at the forum thread, dedicated to these headphones from the first page, try it, and then ask questions.

The challenge with these Sony ZX-110s is that the headphone is good and it's cheap. However, you can't get pads, and the pads that are available costs like $8, so you might as well get another ZX-110.

The real prob is that the ZX-110's ear pads start flaking very quickly, after a few months.

Anybody know a source of ZX-110 replacement pads that fit?

I had mine over almost 3 years, wear them almost daily gaming and the whole unit still looks like new, cheap but new, including the pads.

Hi! You can find pads for the Sony ZX-110s on Aliexpress

Are all ZX-110s the same ? Has there been any revisions ? Is this one the same as the one measured in the opening post ?

I purchased it in no time thinking it will be rather flat / neutral because of how it can sound more like a reference headphone with that EQ setup you provided

Never got to hear any of the good good headphones but music sounds rather neat and well articulated with these headphones EQ'ed

Yes, a wonderful headphone with a bit of EQ! So lightweight! And the on-ear-construction is also nice - so no fiddeling with the pads to get your ears inside….
Of Course the bass region is not possible to equalize 100 % -but:
I do use it as often as my Sennheiser HD 58x Jubilee!

I got a pair of these yesterday. Today I set up EQ in Camilladsp according to Amir's config and have been listening to various things using Moode, a Tempo Tec dongle, and these headphones. To my somewhat used up ears, these are as good as any headphones I own including an actual good KEF pair. This is going on my list of amazingly cheap audio stuff I've gotten from reading reviews here. Now to get an equalizer app for my phone.

Crinacle is talking about Equalization:
Look specially between 1:20 min and 1:45 min - so funny!
Hope you have android !

So PowerAmp is the solution.

I am listening at home and use roon for EQ. As @amirm does.

Impressive headphone actually!! reminds me of my Koss prodj200.

Worst cans of headphones i have ever heard, just horrible no matter how much i tried to EQ them they are just horrible ,maybe good enough for video call or emergency situations when u have no other choice but listen to these headphones ‍♂️
