$75000 cd player... all the best adjectives come out in the reviews

I always mentally compare it to an automobile. I mean think of all the engineering in a $75k car, or even two $37k cars, awesome performance, state of the art technology, tons of engineering from the body, to the engine, wheels, tires brakes, to safety standards, fuel efficiency, getting it certified in diff countries etc etc. And then you have a CD player for 75k? Where does all the money go.
And a $75k car probably even comes with a CD player. Well, they used to anyway...

lol...oh my. Why the heck would a CD player have any issues with playing at the loudest volumes?? How does a CD player even know what volume it's playing at??? I'm confused.
 Do I detect some hardness here?
A lack of that vital emotion without which the high-end can't be appreciated?
It's not for everyone you know

(tongue now jammed into cheek, and won't release. Help!)

or you can rip your CD with dB power amp on your PC and have the CD checked with AccurateRip
And then have a completely perfect flac or wav file to listen to , it will be numerically correct to every single bit in each song.....

But there's just something about the Burmester. It feels like there's more air between each note, space between the instruments. I can physically feel the distance between the musicians in a way that puts me right in the studio. Mids are middier, highs are higher, and the lows are lower, but not in an overbearing or burdensome way, more so in a way that exemplifies the agility and robustness that's buried deep within the compact disc.

..and timing! Each note arrives in sequence, just as intended! It creates a perfectly chronologically ordered wave of sound, washing over the happy listener.

Not like those other CD players where the notes arrive haphazardly, whenever they feel like it.

For some reason I love reading stuff like this I'm honestly impressed with peoples ability to write and describe things. I should have paid more attention in school. Their flowery language knows no bounds, and there's no end to the adjectives that can be used to describe an inanimate device lol. It plays with "confidence"... love it.

"Cutting edge technology combined with a proprietary belt-drive system " uhhh... belt drive? doesn't sound so cutting edge

I'll take two please. Also, 75k, and look at the remote they give you...

One of the areas where a $75000 CD player might be able to separate itself from the pack of $250-500 CD players that sound exactly the same as it is ergonomics and design so it's nice to see they have that base well covered!

This works on inception/subliminal level. If you drop 75 grand on a CD-player, you'll make sure for yourself it's the best sound you ever heard.

PS. If someone gets rich off bitcoin investments or such, pls buy one and send it to Amir.

Q:- Does this player automatically apply green ink to the outer edge of each CD?

Edit:- Sudden horrific thought..... The cost of their exclusive ink:eek:

And we call it AdGreen. 300% More expensive than inkjet printer ink of course. Needs replacing every 50 CDs or so, but does not indicate when almost empty. Can only be refilled by an authorised reseller. For that extra feeling of having a cumbersome and unpractical ritual that makes your experience unique.

That remote says it all. A design that bad and lazy has to be intentional - like they are mocking anyone who buys their shit.

It is just a little visual distortion added to the layout to make it look smoother ;)

I just wish your eyes were good enough to see the beauty in the design that I see.

Actually it does not have to "go" anywhere. "Price is the product" is rule no 1 in any luxury goods market.

That is very true. Ultra high end designer clothes and accessories aren't a thousand times better than the same stuff at a regular department store. But most luxury brands focus on selling an image and don't make claims about performance. High end watches don't claim to get you were you are going before your left, they just imply you will look really cool like the actor wearing it in the advertisement. High end purses don't say they will make your money multiply inside your wallet. They could start advertising honestly like "You've got the money, so why would you want your audio equipment to look like what the poor people use?"

I would really love to see some of these companies breakdowns of expenses. How much do they spend on R&D and design? In all fairness, if they only sell a couple of these a year then the equivalent low production car would be in the millions of dollars.
Think of how many $500 CD players they'd have to sell to make the same profit as selling 1 of these.

My TAD was 12k , its beautiful and made like a tank but production values aside its definitely not a area of the hifi that needs that kinda money spent on it.

Oh well ...

ASR is for sure the best audio forum online. After years of reading the assinine subjective nonsense on the likes of stereophile, audiogon, and every other "high end" audio forum this place has reassured me that I'm not insane after all. I was beginning to wonder. Until I came here.
Thank you ASR.

I'm working on my own next-level cd-player right now. It will be built on the structure of this legendary Berkel prosciutto slicer:

That's right: vertical disc, open to the room, and HAND CRANKED! Just substitute that thing with all the teeth for a laser. There is no way to get emotionally closer to the music. And admit it, she's a looker.
