I would think you'd be much more successful with one of these, ;)

i think you'd have better luck if you were good at this:

Even though it was from an even earlier time, never forget...
the Lay-Down Rambler. ;)

Even better if it was the station wagon version (I used my dad's on dates even though I had my own new 1971 Honda CL175 (sometimes called a "scrambler".

Someone get me a rope.

And I never expected my marriage to last more than 5-7 years but it's been 17 years & counting.
Congrats on making it a success.
Something I was never able to do. :(

A thread about "70's ideology" and nobody has brought up the porn stache or the audio ads claiming that you will definitely get laid if you buy a certain turntable...
That Pioneer car stereo ad (was that this thread?) wasn't missing it by much.

Rick "who had a Pioneer car stereo in the 70's, and it didn't work" Denney

Wait - are you guys talking about getting invited over to a friend's house to check out the bitchin' new stereo system, only to find out that the Bose 901's were pointed the wrong way?

"Dude, only 1 speaker is supposed to face front, the other side with all the other speakers goes towards the wall !"

"Yeah, I tried that once, but I like them all pointing forward into the room better. It's louder. Hey, you got any Discwasher juice? I'm all out".

Then spend an agonizing 90 minutes listening to the new album with the 901's backwards. :)

It's not a matter of being 'literary', it's a matter of being literate.

It's very often abbreviated as just 'de gustibus', with the expectation that the reader will get the reference.

Not so fast. I and my fellow Latin students learned it as "De gustibus non rata est". Slightly different meaning. But they both start with "De gustibus".

I don't know who taught you that, but it's a very non-standard finish for 'De gustibus..." .

I've never heard/read it before and Google search seems not to know it either.

It was an exclusive school.
