4x4x2.7m room (~1500 cuft) : would a sb 2000 pro be enough for 2.1 music setup ?

Hello!

Hope everyone is doing well!

I'm looking to purchase a sub for a 1500 cuft room, that will be used for 80% music, 20% movie.
Type of music : chillgressive, hitek, psycore. (fast bpm (+180), heavy use of bass).

Would a sb 2000 pro be enough? I'm looking at the sb 3000 revolution, but i fear it might be way overkill for the room?
I wish I could go with a pb but my wife would kill me with this massive cube in the bedroom

Moving it to a bigger room one day is not in the equation, owning 2x pc 4000 in the living room. So no need to worry abt that.

Thanks!

Edit :
Speakers : kef Q350, will be upgraded to R3 meta.
Thought abt this amp : wiim amp ultra

If the one satisfies you/your usual listening position.....but generally I like duals or more even in my bedroom, but it's smaller than yours and duals just provide less localization.

1 will probably do the job if you don't have bad luck with the placement and you don't intend to listen super loud.

But with your genres of choice I think it's extra important to knock down the peaks from room modes with EQ, or use some other type of room correction. Getting the decay times somewhat under control will help with fast-paced kicks / bass.

yea i'm on the fence abt 2x sb 2000 pro.

Yea it's not made to be to listen super loud, mostly for chilling. Kids bedroom is not far.
When it's time to listen loud is when they are not at home in the living room!

I'm thinking abt the wiim amp ultra to go with the sub + speakers (i'll start with 2x Q350 KEF, then upgrade with R3 meta if i'm pleased with listening in the bedroom).
Any thoughts about those combos?

The SVS has dsp so with measurements you can lower peaks in the bass. But the dsp also adds 6ms of delay so for perfect timing the svs should be 2 meters closer than the speakers. Better still, use a device with room correction.

"Better still, use a device with room correction."

Something like dirac? Or roomfit with the wiim amp ultra? or something else?

The quote button can be used multiple times in a reply fwiw. :) Dirac, Audyssey, ARC (Anthem), Roomfit, Roomperfect, are examples of somewhat automated eq routines to help combat typical home rooms. Get something like REW and a measurement mic too.

Hey!

So i ve contacted svs about which one i should consider, and they ve told me a 3000 revolution would be a great fit.

Anyone had a micro 3000r or 3000r in a room of similar size?

I'm sure the SB 2000 Pro is a good sub.
Possibly overkill for a small room though, and about £1K!
I'd consider a pair of subs for less, not sure what, but I am Mr. Cheapo.
Have you looked at how much audible content there is in any of the music you play that is, for example, under 30Hz?

Pretty good picks IMO, no big issues that I see. WiiM has PEQ and can also do a basic form of room correction itself, so for a casual 2.1 system I think you are covered here. Dirac etc. are probably better, but cost more.

Yea i m currently looking at it to know for sure !

Ok good to know!

Another question : if you had to pick between the sb 3000r micro or sb 2000 pro, which one would you pick?
I m eyeing the 3000 revolution but it s a little bit big and I wonder if it won t be totaly overkill in my small room.

On paper the micro seems close or better than the 2000pro, but with the smaller enclosure idk. I wonder if the dual speaker + being new makes it the better choice.

I m strongly considering either 2x 2000pro or 2x micro 3000.

Thanks folks sorry for the questions, not many reviews if any of those new models around!

Do you have neighbours?

Hello,

Some neighbours but kinda far away, nothing to worry abt (if the 2x pc 4000 never bothered the neighbours I don't think the smallers subs will!) tho kids bedroom not far.
A very simplistic plan of the house (like rly simplistic and not so correct :D)

So yea I don't want to wake them, tbh the sub won't be very loud. Maybe sometimes when they are not here, but if it must happens I guess i'll prefere go to the living room and just enjoy the 7.2.4 setup. But maybe the idea of the bedroom comfiness will make me sometimes want to stay in the bedroom, the reason i'm hesitating for bigger subs than a simple sb 1000 pro / sb 2000 pro / 3000 micro.

And due to the lack of tests (or maybe i'm just bad at searching) i'm wondering if 3000 micro > sb 2000 pro or no.
I would gladly pick a pb but it's too huge for the bedroom.

I think the SB2000 will do just fine.

The Ultra takes care of delays.

Thanks!

So the sb 2000 pro > micro 3000 ?

Edit : after some digging yea the sb 2000 pro > micro 3000r it seems.

Now the question is either 2000pro or 3000r.

Thanks folks!

So after some back and forth with avs chat support i'll settle for the 3000r. Kinda overkill but hey, let's have some fun!

Thanks!

As long as you're not chasing very low frequencies, a sub like that can be okay. I do like the dual opposed design for larger drivers, tho.

Yes strange that svs doesn’t have bigger subs with dual opposed drivers.

So the sb 2000 pro > micro 3000 ?
I don't think so. Different concepts.

The Micro 3000 is much lighter and a bit smaller, but has a much bigger power rated amp. And is only a 100 € more here. As I understand it that's also a much newer model. And has XLR in, which is very nice.

Looks like the overall better package. But personally I have issues with the micro enclosure size vs. power. Can it really deliver? OK, some people say the same about the SB series. They are also pretty small for their substantial power. And I know they are very good.
