What exactly is your point?

You did the math correctly. If you want a continuous output of 2 x 240 W for an arbitrary amount of time you will need a PSU capable of outputting >= 480 VA for the same period of time.

With a lower speced PSU you can still have 240 W per channel for a limited time, covering the peaks. 3e Audio did mention before that the current rating for the power bricks they supply is very much on the conservative side. If you don't want to rely on out-of-spec tolerances you have to bite the bullet and go for the 48 V 10 A PSU.
That is a good point about covering the peaks.

I have the A7 with the nominal 5A supply. This is a great supply. More heat (and I am currently living in a heatwave) with a 10A supply (using Fosi V3 Mono's supply)... and much, much more bulk (with all of the 10A's I have seen).

Which is why the ali-express bundle from 3e comes with the 5A ... it comes under certain thresholds for postage. Audiophonics sells with a 10A. Pricing is very different... but I am going off topic. You can pick up an Aiyima 10A which seems well received for very little. I think 3e got the 5A option as a standard offer right ...

I was just wondering for speakers like ascilab c6b, which dips into 2 ohm, whether you need a 10A supply. But I guess 5A is fine

Regarding heat: I would expect the 10A to run cooler for the same amount of current compared to the 5A? I would expect the 5A to work harder and generate more heat?

You can. You hold the knob on the front down for a few seconds to put it into standby mode. If you want to disable the auto-sensing, hold the knob down for 5 seconds while it is in standby mode, and either the XLR or RCA light will blink for 3 seconds (RCA blinking = auto sense disabled, XLR blinking = auto sense enabled, if I recall correctly). With auto sense disabled, it will not turn on unless you short press the knob on the front to turn it on, and it won't turn off unless you hold the knob down for a few seconds. It's really not that difficult.

Power draw while it is in standby mode shouldn't be a concern if @harkpabst says it doesn't even register.

What exactly are you trying to prevent/avoid?
I am in sonic heaven....btw, 3e amp on the highs side, 3 way multiple amped, elec x overed system, Smsl DO200 pro, Aiyima T20 pre amp, changed tubes for better tubes absolutely stunning music !!! Thanks to all

Cheap but good !!!! All of them !

ali has some summer sale promotion, so snagged an a7 with 48/10a powerbrick for 236 euro (ex vat). With VAT and import cost Its probably going to around 295 euro. Not too bad!
It’s great price for it.
I just got another A7 without psu from Amazon for 301.80$ delivered yesterday.

I still need to figure out whether the 10A power supply is worth getting.

yeah so it was 7 euro more expensive with the 10A (you get more discount when you spend more). I have ordered the c6b, so for the 7 euros more it was a no brainer since the c6b probably needs it.

My desktop speakers are MA Silver 50s (6G), and I think the minimum impedance for them is 4.1ohm (according to the manual I found on the MA site). I think the 5A power supply is probably sufficient for those speakers, but if the 10A power supply ensures that the amp can handle it easier when it dips to 4ohms, I would totally consider.

Thanks! Does the sale include the A5 and is it be SOYYIN branded? Would you please provide a link? :)

@ziggurcat Yeah from what I read, 5A for 4ohm speakers, you should be fine. It's just that mines is going to dip to 2 ohm

I also ordered a Wiim ultra to pair with it. I guess RCA -> RCA should be fine over 50cm cable? Or do I need to get one of those 'correct' RCA -> XLR cables?

I think the problem is that I'm a dumb sucker for head room :cool:o_O:oops:. I also thought I read that the 5A supply is good down to 6ohm? I could be very wrong, though.

RCA to XLR would be no different than RCA to RCA, so it won't actually matter. 50cm is a pretty short length, too.

hmm. only a5-38v5a us/uk/eu versions seems available. Don't know if the A5 comes with 48v/5a.

The A5 doesn't come with a 48v power supply. Someone with more knowledge would be able to tell you whether you could use the 48V 10A power supply with the A5.

3e Audio, and SOYYIN are the same company -- I'll try to find the link where the manufacturer explains the name. There is no "SOYYIN" branding on the actual amp when you get it, it only says A7/A7 Mono/A7se, etc... in the top left corner.

@Jost Buergi But price diff between a5 and a7 is really low now with the discounts, why just not go for the a7 with 10a instead?
(238 euro (283 - 45) vs 215 euro (243 - 28))

@ziggurcat I think 5A is good for 4-8 ohm ? and 10A for lower? (lower ohm requires more current at same wattage)

Found the post where I saw 6ohm (it's a post made by the manufacturer):

Almost certainly. Unless you have a system with a really bad 50kA ground current.
