@3eaudio Reading the A7 / A7 mono review by Amir here

He says "internally, just using the left channel of stereo version is the same as mono dedicated unit."

Is this the same topology with the A5? If so that would interest me if you could confirm and explain.
Thank you :)

The TPA3251 should not be used with a voltage above 36 V, so a Mono version (or using a regular A5 for one channel only) doesn't make any sense.

You won't get more power from this setup into higher loads because of the voltage limit. You won't get higher power into lower loads because the PBTL configuration is already rock stable down to 2 ohms.

OK so the TPA3251 has a voltage limit that the TPA3255 does not, otherwise there would be no point in having the A7 monos either...
Is that correct? Interesting thank you ... I think I got it :).

I was curious after reading the A7 review here.

The TPA3255 also has a voltage limit, of course, ;) but a noticeably higher one (51 V recommended, 53,5 V max). The higher the voltage, the more difficult it gets to properly cool these rather tiny chips. Remember that power increases with the square of the voltage. For me this is one reason why mono amplifiers based on the 3255 can make sense.

But maybe @3eaudio will step in giving their point of view.

Thank you. I remember something about 3251 vs 3255 on this ... but currently I am going slightly gaga for various reasons.

I like the option of separate volume controls for each channel which also makes me very strange!

But if a small but stimulating debate might ensue, I am all for it. ;-)

correct,A5,A7,A7mono share one PCB design

What is this coupon good for? Where is it used?
on the Aliexpress store. and it's not valid anymore. but there's a "summer sale" right now and you can get 20$ off with one of the coupons AE publish on the main page. some sales have 40$ coupons off purchases over 239$

Back in March it was good for a $15 discount on AliExpress.

Trouble in paradise. :(

I have two 5se amps that were working fine for about 6 weeks. They were used for highly efficient mid/high dome drivers in a 4-way system, so the load was well below their max. Never saw the clipping lights come on.

The auto signal on/off was a bit of a pain but I left it unchanged. It was set to volume control bypass, and the input to RCA.

I was away for a couple days, so the amps were left unplugged.

Now neither amp produces any output. No lights on one, flicking between lights on the other. But no changes in any of the settings fixes the problem.

When the DC power plug from the 48V/5A is pulled from the amps, there's a slight click from the amp, something like a relay switch.

Tried to get to https://www.3e-audio.com/ but the page tells me:

You mean 38V/5A, not 48V,right?

OMG!!!! Unbelievable. :rolleyes::eek::p

Just checked & realized I'd been using the 48v/5a power supplies for my A7 Mono amps, which are idle at the moment.

One of the 5se amps is running right now. No issues. I hope the 2nd one is the same...

Thanks for the quick pickup, @Sokel In my defense, the 48v/5a and 38v/5a power supplies look identical.

It's a common problem with barrel power connectors. My former boss killed a few thin client computers before realising he was using a 19V supply (from another model by the same manufacturer) not the 12V they needed.
