3 way with Dayton and SB drivers.

Well I've spent quite a bit of time playing with passive and active filtering on this speaker and I don't really know what kind of assessment can be made. None of the passive filters tend to sound right to me even though it appears to check all the boxes. I get fairly neutral response with good reverse nulls but it just never quite sounds that good to me. Active is a cakewalk in comparison but I just don't quite seem to land on anything I like. I find the speaker has a sort of 'in your face' sound to it no matter the filtering. Is this from the narrower DI than what I'm used to?

My reference tends to be the mechano23 as it just sounds right to me which is definitely much wider in it's mid range, perhaps that just works for my ears/room.

Been a minute but I have an update. Found some kinks in my measurement setup, mostly that my impedance jig was generating data that was about 1-2ohm off. Friend left his DATS3 here so I used that and the data lines up more with the sim. It's still not perfect but it's much close now.

I think I finally came up with a passive network that sounds good. Xover point is 1khz. I am fixing a few problems with post EQ, they seem quite minor and tough to fix passively so I am happy with just a few tweaks that most people probably wouldn't notice. I would love to have the 3k region up about 1db, top end gets a -1db shelf at 6k. Seems much easier to deal with those problems with some quick eq filters. I will say I get a bit lost in chasing perfection here, forgetting that what I'm hearing is incredible and giving me chills. I'm also afraid to mess up the phase which to my ears sounds about as perfect as passive can get for this speaker.

This is a quick in room measurement. I have an extra notch filter that I'm not sure I need, my ears really can't decide if it's better with or without so I will probably omit it. Plenty of room reflections in this. This data also compares my notch filter. The mild peak seems to go away entirely just slightly off axis so and I hear no issues in that region, might be best to just omit it.

Here is the current, and likely final filter set. I'll have to sit with this for a week but I'm pretty sure it's spot on, everything sounds great. Well, aside from some stuff that was mixed bad, sorry Empire of the Sun, love your writing but please god hire someone else to mix your stuff so you're not blasting people with treble.

I hope I gel with this filter set, I'd love to have this speaker be a finished project.
