In an 2 channel setup, does the 3 way FS with 12 inch woofer + 15 inch sub offer any avantage vs 3 way FS with 8 inch woofer with the same sub. Both would have similar size mids(5 inch) and tweeters and crossed at the same frequency.

Have you measured your room response with either setup? Your room dimensions and preferably REW measurements along with placement options would help to offer options.

Also which speakers are involved would also be helpful as it seems you don't have both in your room?

Another question is what bass management options/s and room EQ are you planning to use or are available on your pre amp?

I don't have both, I only have the 3 way with the 12 inch woofer and a sub

Speakers are Acarian Alon 4 and Rythmik F15 sub. Pre-amp is Glass ware audio Aikido 6dj8, power amp is Usher R1.5, DAC is musical fidelity M1, source is Zidoo z9s media player and Wiim pro

No bass management or eq are used, only the crossover function on the sub is available.

I am actually happy with the setup, wondering if a smaller 3 way FS or BS with a smaller woofer would suffice as a sub is already employed

Well, pretty difficult to tell and predict how it will play out in your room. Without any funny bass management and EQ options, I would think that best to leave low end to the sub, but then if well integrated, 12 inch woofer could support 15" sub lower than 8" woofer. Sorry if not helpful, but really difficult to tell based on what we have.

Ah yes... The "Wondering if" Disease... a well known killer of happiness and wallets everywhere... lol. I've survived many serious bouts of this myself... and I'm sure that I'm not alone. At this moment in time and space you are happy. You can do nothing and bask in that state of mind, or you can do something to change it. So you're looking for MORE happiness... just follow your stated course of action right down the rabbit hole. (If you hadn't guessed by now... I'm the "Hookah smoking character"... lol)

The advice that you're about to receive from this group is going to complicate everything... lol.
