Hello ASR,

I am looking for two 3-pin XLR cables, such that I can connect the outputs of my dacs to the inputs of my studio monitors (See below)

I require balanced XLR, due to the fact my RCA cables are picking up high pitched interference from my pc monitor cable (and probably other cables)

Doing a quick search for 3-pin XLR, there is a plethora of nameless brands in conjunction with cheap prices. What do I go for?

Another question : Can I buy two 3pin to 3pin XLR cables and not worry about them being mono, since the outputs for the dac are LEFT/RIGHT?

Just get some no frills ones from amazon of the length required. If you want to spend more but reasonable, Blue Jeans cables have a good reputation around here.

You might want to think about the connectors as well. Neutrik make some of the nicest (I believe Raen is a cheaper sub-brand of Neutrik that's a little cheaper, but still good quality). XLR connectors can be quite bulky, I need 3" of clearance behind my DAC to for the cables I built with Neutrik plugs. I'm considering replacing the straight XLRs with right angled or side cable entry ones so I can push my DAC back a bit more.

Right angled plugs on the monitor end can also make the cable hang better (same for the power plug). I use the TRS connection on my monitors because a right angled TRS can be rotated to any angle (some XLRs can be rotated, but might have to take the plug apart to do it)...

I bought a cheap, well made cable from Amazon, cut it in half and soldered the XLR plugs on the ends.

If you want to get fancy and don't want to make your own, these are very well made and use excellent connectors:

Nice! These are neutrik AND available for prime delivery in the UK.

As I don't think anyone has specifically answered this - yes. It's absolutely no different to if you were connecting the outputs of your DAC to an integrated or power amplifier using XLR cables.

Where do you live? You might get more helpful specific suggestions if your said.

These cables from SnakeOil are of decent build quality, Neutrik connectors & non-magical cable, Schiit sells a version for use with their gear.

I've edited the link in my post above as my original one had right-angled connector on the wrong end .

Thanks for confirming this!

Interesting name haha, i'll check them out.

Thanks to everybody else for their suggestions too!

Or just make your own, then you can customize length....

If you want something more custom like exact lengths, your selection of connectors, or techflex color options, you can try Performance Audio.

Of course, it'll cost more than needed but for some people color coordination/custom stuff is nice to have.

I'm sure disignacable will do custom lengths if asked. Everything else is already configurable (cable type, colour, connectors etc). I and many others have happily bought from them, and they're little more than DIY cost for those just making a couple of cables.

i bought it. One female base has the diameter a little too big and move in the male plug.
i bought a Samson XLR : faulty welding
My life is a hell paved with bad luck

finally i bought this and all is OK.

I bought these as I have a preference for neutrik's quality *and* amazon prime shipping as I'm impatient.

Happy to report there is no ringing coming from the speakers anymore , which was the reason I wanted XLR instead of RCA.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm now a happy camper

I caved in today and ordered some side entry female XLR's so i'll be able reposition my EX5 where I want it.

I think they're Cable Techniques ones with branded caps. https://www.cabletechniques.com/lopro-xlr-mini-xlr
