I haven't attended all that many conventions, but I don't think it's accurate to call it getting "wined and dined". They can be quite a slog, really.

With the combination of jetlag, and very long flights, together with covering the show, it certainly does not qualify for one.

I think that term is best used when companies fly out highest sales dealers to fancy resort areas.

Oh, that is good to know. I don't have a personal feeling about how long it takes to see the show. If I can do it in say, one day, I could come visit you during the second day.

At the kind invitation of Shenzhen Audio, I will be attending the 2026 SIAS Shenzhen International Audio Show. The show starts on August 14 and goes through the 16th.

If you will be there and see me jet-lagged and wandering around with a camera feel free to say 你好.

I have not been to China in 15+ years. From the videos I have seen, the transformation has been incredible! The level of modernization is amazing. Bullet trains going everywhere, cashless/cardless mobile payments, electric cars everywhere, etc.

I have some business afterward in Beijing before coming home.

14 hour flight to get to Hong Kong and then ferry to Shenzhen. Was grateful for the non-stop flight to HK. Alternatives were crazy with long connections and total travel time easily exceeding 20 hours!!!

I'll be there after the 19th. Just missed you. The flight is great, I get to catch up on movies I would never consider normally. Its like 24 hr travel in the end. Stay safe and set up Alipay

I did a round the world ticket once. Germany - Japan - US midwest - US Southern Cali - US East Coast - Germany all in about a week. Never was I as continuously jet lagged as during and after that trip. The worst part: my employer's software/system of hours didn't accout for the date line. We were supposed to report all work and travel times in local time and in theory it should balance on the way back but it never took into account the date line, so I don't remember if I lost 8 or 24 h. If I had to do it again, I would do it in the other direction, and if it is just for getting a little more sleep.

Be careful that they don't make you pay duties on yourself when you return…

Yeah, pretty sure Amir has established himself quite well as being unconcerned with financial incentives. All can be confident that, if something is awesome, it is. If not, it's not. That won't change because he was invited to an industry event as a highly regarded industry insider.

When I visited there several years ago, somehow my boss was able to find a Starbucks to get his daily vat of nuclear grade black coffee. It's a pretty impressive place all around.

HK is still one of the prettiest airports I've been to. Not as fun as the old days of flying through residential high rises to land, but still gorgeous.

Excited to see what's there. Chinese and HK brands have been doing some awesome things as of late.

As far as I know, a SIM card from a foreign carrier might simply work, but I’m not entirely sure how things work now or what's the best practice to get through GFW.

Thanks. Have been researching this for a while. Seems like the most convenient way is a hotspot on my US carrier mobile phone. They bypass the firewall so only issue is the plan and allowance for data. I have verizon and they have a plan with 15 Gigabyte/month and importantly, then throttled down to 1.5 mbit/sec which is still quite usable. Have to now figure out how much it costs to upgrade my current plan to it.

Everything else seems more complicated and dicey.
