2025 Music Discovery Award!!!

Ya'll know this is supposed to be for new music released in 2025?

Good versions but I don't think cover versions are something to vote on in this thread. Or what do you think?
They should be. So much of music is a "cover" or a remade version of an older song. Heck, anytime an orchestra plays a song, they are covering the original. Maybe its the cover you fall in love with and not the original.

I've listened to everything posted and only given two 'likes' so far. This must be why I mostly stick with music from the 1970s. :)

Taste in music is an odd thing.

Here are some interesting things going on in the music world, generally speaking. I am not entering this in the contest, but just as markers for the year 2025 that people might enjoy.

1. K-Pop Demon Hunters. I first heard of this from my grandkids, 13 and 11, who have now watched the movie 10 times and sing along with all the songs. The song "Golden" is number 1 in spotify listens at the moment, and two other songs are in the top ten. A few years ago it was Frozen, but I have now watched the new K-Pop movie, and it is very different from the Disney way of doing things.
Here is a version of Golden for those less attuned to the K-Pop way of doing things.

2. Chappell Roan. Pop phenom of the year. Check the audience response in this video. Oh to be young!

3. Taylor Swift. The production is just way over the top.

4. Annie Lennox still going strong, although with a little augmenation on the echo dial! This one is on our indie-folk list, because the phenomenal Allison Russell wrote the song.

5. And so is Mavis Staples, also with an Allison Russell song.

6. Finally, outside the pop world, there was this -

7. And this -

I'm a bit torn on that point. For example, Led Zeppelin's cover of When the Levee Breaks is to be (almost) considered a new song that has little to do with the original by Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie. Other than the lyrics. That type of cover sure, it can be included in this thread.

But even though these groups rock well with good energy in their covers, I think they are so similar to the original that they don't fit into this thread:

This Still of the Night cover is from 2021, I just included it as an example.

Regarding classical music. It's mostly interpretations of old pieces that are the thing. I dare to guess that there is no newly written classical music from 2025 in this thread. However, I could be wrong about that assumption.

I just spent quite a while now listening to everything on the first 3 pages and I gotta say I'm disappointed vs last year. Last year I thought there were a fair few good tracks but I've found nothing so far. I know I'm not bringing anything to the table this year because I haven't posted any music here this year so that's my bad, and to be honest I haven't found or really looked for any new music this year. I feel this year has been a difficult year and we lack inspiration musically. A bit of a downer post, just I remember being captivated by quite a few of posted music last year, but on first 3 pages nothing for me. Maybe it's been a difficult year altogether.

Holy cow guys if all music was like what was posted here until now I would have to sell all my audio gear and would never listen to a second of music ever again! :D

Time to be the 1st one to post something actually listenable:

Yeah you're right if I had to listen to that racket which you posted I'd sell mine as well o_O

In this thread:

80% people posting 2025 releases that spoke to them; many tastes and flavours represented - nice! Most not in my wheelhouse, but apreciated nontheless.

10% people that can't follow instructions: TRACKS RELEASED IN 2025!

10% sad snowflakes that can't cope with the fact that it's a big world out there with many people with many different tastes (I suggest the "ignore" function for the rest of you)

I am curious what you think of this non-competitive selection of 2025 music that I posted. To be specific, which is your favourite track, given that you like at least one of them. It should not take long if you do a "gong" on the ones that you immediately dislike.
The reason I am asking is that I attend live performance at festivals and clubs and believe there's a lot of great music out there. But people have trouble finding it. So I'm curious what you think.

It does not look like it, but this link takes you to my post.

You are kind of coming on strong in this thread about your indie website. Maybe not the place?

I was actually trying to introduce interesting and varied content fitting the envelope of the thread. I feel compelled to do that, because so much great music is being missed here, and in general, these days. Indie-folk encompasses country, bluegrass, Americana, choral, some jazz and rock, blues, gospel, roots, world, singer-songwriter, big band, and a great variety of music, with active performers today. I am not seeing much of any of this here, so I'm trying to make the tent a bit bigger.
The post you link was aroused out of genuine curiousity at the poster's comment, and linked back to a post I had made, not to my blog. I think the point that there is much great music still being made in this day and age is an important one to make, especially from the perspective of the artists making it.
However, I have yielded to the temptation to link back to my blog, so I'll take on board your criticism.
I just wanted you to know that's not the purpose of my posts.
I just love the music, and do a lot of digging and grunt-work in order to present it to people who often are disaffected with what is pushed at them through the normal channels.
I also post reasonably often here on the audio equipment side of things, so it's not like I'm here just to promote my blog.

I have removed any links to my blog. I'm more interested in contributing to the thread, not in self-promotion. (If I missed any, let me know).

This one you lose 50% of the interest if you don't understand the lyrics. She's really driven, a pure artist.

Yeah. This clip is from the same singer with Tom Odell this time in English. It is from 2024 through. The harmony when they sing together is outstanding.

Well, you're going to have to look at this one too. We had it on our list in 2024. It's the same song posted above by Pierre.

And this is also sublime. Odell has also duetted with Freya Ridings, who released her rendition of 'Black Friday' this year.
(When it comes to chansons, the other amazing singer is Zaz. She releases a youtube performance track or two virtually every year.)
