2025 Music Discovery Award!!!

I am with you, brother. If we were polling 1973 here and not 2025, we would have had listed:

Allman Brothers Band - Jessica
Allman Brothers Band - Ramblin' Man
David Bowie - Life on Mars
CAN - Moonshake
Billy Cobham - Quadrant 4
The Doobie Brothers - Long Train Runnin'
Emerson, Lake and Plmer - Karn Evil 9
Faust - Krautrock
Genesis - Firth of Fifth
Gong - Flying Teapot
Herbie Hancock - Watermelon Man
King Crimson - Exiles
John Lennon - Mind Games
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird
Bob Marley & the Wailers - Concrete Jungle
Steve Miller Band - The Joker
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Pink Floyd - Money
The Rolling Stones - Angie
Stevie Wonder - Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing
ZZ Top - La Grange

and many others I am skipping. Now, nothwistanding all the sympathy I can have for all the artists competing in this poll, the best of them are miles behind any entry of the 1973 list. And I could choose any other year in the 70s...
To be able to recognise good music in any Timezone you need to be receptive to it with an open heart…

I feel like a band is playing in her head as she sings this, especially given the pauses between lines. The heading states that this is a cover; do you have the original?
Isn’t that amazing?

Late last year I came across Missioned Souls, a family band in the Philippines that does covers of rock and pop songs from the 50s on up (and is said to be working on some original music). Four kiddos, prodigiously talented, sometimes joined by mom and dad. This year, they had a breakout hit (3.4 million views on YT so far) with their cover of Deep Purple's Highway Star from 1972. Also this year, I turned 70, and I've been nostalgic for the music of my youth. Great to hear that music being honored by the up-and-coming next generation of performers.

Reminds me of Fanny. Filipino female rockers.

This one track by Benjamin Booker does it for me. I'd post some Knower, but their newest was released in 2024.

This exhibits a statistical fallacy. We've had 50 years to explore and digest music from 1973. We've had several days from 2025. Over time and references, More music from 2025 will emerge and become part of the normative cannon.

If you simply think 1973 was the best year for music, you are entitled to that. You be you.

Some music moves you and in the first minute, it's like, yeah, I'm digging it:
That's probably my favourite one that's been posted so far. (I always listen with my eyes closed so I'm not influenced by the video).

EDIT: that's also 2024, can people not post anything apart from 2025, what's so hard to understand the the year past is 2025 , it's not rocket science, for the love of God right! If I'm gonna post a video for best song in 2025, then guess what, it's gotta be released in 2025, Jesus!

EDIT#2: I just re-enabled my Like for your post just because discussion with another member in this thread that pointed out that stuff released towards back end of 2024 won't gain traction immediately so it's not a level playing field for the artists - so in later posts I proposed that "released in the last 1.5yrs" would be a good basis for the poll, so was worth re-enabling the Like for your post in my eyes anyway!

2025 and what a voice;
That's down to Michael Jackson though, a bit different but not really an improvement to the original.
