2-way & 2.5-way family design?

I'm curious if there are any families of 2-way and 2.5-way DIY designs using the same woofer. I'm aware of the Zaph ZA-5 family but it's a wee bit pricey - the ZA5.3t TMM is $515 for the kit pair at madisound. Ideally I could find something with a ~ $20-30 woofer. I want to experiment with an active crossover and hear the difference between a 2-way and a 2.5-way side by side.
