2.1 amplifier recommendations?

Hi everyone, new member here! I am looking for a 2.1 amplifier for use while sitting in my office. I'm thinking something the along the lines of the Aiyima A07 with a good SINAD to price ratio but with the extra channel for the passive sub.

I will be playing music connected by wire from an Iphone so no need for bluetooth. I see that Aiyima has a 2.1 amp but with the TPA3116D2.

Aiyima got good reviews here. I have a Fosi Audio BT20A, but I don't think it has a sub out.

Just purchased the SMSL DA-9, think that would be pretty good.

There's always the Denon PMA-600NE. I've seen these go for way less than MSRP, especially second hand. Beefy, semi-low profile stereo amp with subwoofer pre-out. I also personally think it looks gorgeous, especially the silver/steel version.

Thanks for the examples of the SMSL and Denon. Preferably the .1 would be powered as I'm running a passive DIY subwoofer.

Amplifiers with sub amplified output are quite rare. Do not touch the TPA3116.

An intermediate solution, would be to buy a sub amplifier, it would be fed by the sub output of your main amplifier (example SMSL or Denon).

I have used this for many years to bi-amp 3-way speakers.

Hi, I have a nearly full drawer of modules with TPA3116. The problem with the TPA3116A is its high rate of distortion in the high and high mids, and the distortion increases quite quickly when you turn up the volume of the sound.

This is a decent amp for a portable bluetooth, or a garage amp.

The other problem with TPA3116 is the low frequencies that are quite anemic. Believe me you want more than that.

TI released the TPA325X which is far superior, especially if implemented well.

I also have the TPA3255, far ahead of the 3116, just looking at the pdf specs on the Texas Instruments site.

The other option I'm looking at is using an existing topping tp22 2 channel amp and then splitting the signal to a small mono subwoofer amp like the Aiyima A3001 https://www.aiyima.com/products/subwoofer-amplifier-aiyima-a3001?variant=29384225554507

That is a good choice with a TPA3255 for the sub.

How's the tripath TK2050 (In the topping tp22) compare to the TPA3116?
The TK2050 didn't test well in the Dayton DTA-120.

Are there any bench tests of amps that use the TPA3116?

ModDIY, thanks for the feedback, using a A3001 sub amp is looking like a good option.

How's the tripath TK2050 (In the topping tp22) compare to the TPA3116?
The TK2050 didn't test well in the Dayton DTA-120.

More or less in the same range. Tripath is an early 2000 technology, now bankrupt. The one I had heard wasn't too bad. Some people like these amps, they find them soft and musical. But for me it is outdated and is not at all in the category of TPA325X.

I noticed the Aiyima A07 has a 3.5mm aux output on the back. Does this output get controlled by the volume knob on the front?
If so, I could connect the Aiyima A3001 sub amp to this and have a three channel TPA3255 system.

Otherwise I could wire up a pot for a line level master volume control.

Yes you are right, normally should be volume controlled, it would be better to ask the manufacturer on aliExpress

I asked on the aiyima 07 reveiw thread and the aux output is just y-connected to the input.
Anyone know of a passive volume control with 2 rca in 4 out?

Note that it's using better output inductors than many, and that it's running one 3116 per channel rather than a single one in stereo mode.
