Hi I have a 3 m x3 m X 2.4 ceiling I bought an Onkyo RZ50 8 weeks ago and I've had Gitch after handshakes going wrong, the whole time and on-top of that had to set up Dirac after the Rx50 returns it's self to factory everytime it goes off or turns the subwoofer down by itself it's just sounded thin and terrible it's paired with klipsch Thx 502L w front and klipsch Ds160w in 7.2.2 a Velodyne impact 12 and a Dali sw12, so my thinking is it with all its Dirac Hi-Tec it should sound Awsome compared with my old SR 7002 from 2008 Right it doesn't and I have listened to both same speakers so no not my ears or the room or Dirac for that matter
So after hour and hours everyday of trying to make that reality today I exploded and TODAY was the last day
I called the retailer and said I'M F# ... OVER IT
He was very helpful and said Yea we have had a few back with that ....... We are closing in 14 days you can bring the Rz50 back and straight swap
dennon 3800 or a
Marantz cinema 60
Any Advice knowing the room size ,the speakers, I would SO APPRECIATE .....
Thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to ASR

I don't have a great deal of experience with AVRs - but you need to make a quick decision so I'll see if I can move things along for you.

The Dennon is often recommended here, it's a reliable favourite and I don't think you would be disappointed.
I haven't seen reviews (good, measurement based reviews) for the Marantz. The Marantz Cinema 40 was reviewed here and liked although the value for money was questioned. That does not automatically mean that another model is also good.

I'd prefer that a member who knows AVRs comments, but if you are pushed for time the Dennon is a known quantity and would be a safe choice.

Hi

A few things:
Competent electronics sound the same.
Your room has a difficult shape: Square, not ideal ,but you can make it work.

Get the Denon 3800.
I don't know Dirac, don't have much experience with it. I tend to think it is hyped. I have Audyssey MultEQ-X, that I use and like. I believe those 2 are equivalent.

Fro there, get Audyssey, MultEQ-X or Dirac and prepare to work a bit. Reading though some audiophiles accounts on the web, you would think that you just run Dirac and .. Shazam! Good Sound. It seldom works that way. Getting great sound from any system in any room, requires patience. And a bit of learning: You are used to a certain "sound" , a different sound. even if accurate, may not be immediately palatable. It may take a few times, that is where measuring will help. On that front I believe Dirac does a better job, that Audyssey MultEQ-X.

To summarize:

Get the Denon 3800H
Get Dirac or MultEQ-X (Cheaper it seems than Dirac)
Take your time to learn and perform the corrections.
Re-visit your thread for more questions and, yes, sharing.

As for speakers.. I am no fan of Klipsch, there are IMO better speakers out there, others will chime.
I'd keep the subwoofers.

Peace.

I believe those 2 are equivalent.
I've had both and do not think they are equivalent. Not substantially different, but I think DiracLive and its tools are better than Audyssey or Wiim, but not Genelec GLM.

We both are into beliefs .. I understand:I have not yet found any objective comparisons between these DRC.. I am very confortable with Audyssey, no experience with Dirac.

Peace

Thank you soOOoo much your help is totally Appreciated! Ive look at it more today and it seems like the 3800 is just packed with features 4 subs which when a 3x3m cube I think will help to smoothened the cubic nightmare the bedroom is but until funds and times off allow, Ive only got " the cube " Ive also got a Marantz sr7002 I could combine with the Denon 3800
The cinema 60 being 7.2 it just lacks channel I could still combine with the sr7002 and it would just look awesome beside each other and every review finishes with a " but it does sound really good with for music" to completely leave you totally back at square one and to get the cinema 50 with the extra channels Ive got to hand over another $1000 which if I was to do and get it home set it up and sounded wow I would be in , however after all the drama that the Onkyo has been handshake problems, resetting itself turning sub down by itself I'm a little tec not trusting , thanks again for your help

" but it does sound really good with for music"
Which is total BS. All amplifiers sound the same. The Denon X3800H and Marantz Cinema 50 are identical in terms of their internal hardware, as they are both made by the same parent company, Sound United.

Thank you , today I hooked my old marantz running front 4 thx
To it from the R50 pre out front and front height and because the rz50 once again reset itself from yesterday's dirac measurements when turned on and

Thank you it's very hard to cut through all the hype I appreciate the input

The Marantz 60 is identical to a Denon AVR-X2800H, so definitely go for the 3800H. Then you'll be able to run Dirac, which will make the biggest difference to the sound.
I can assure you its not identical, First it has all channel pre out Also has DAB radio, Rated at 100 watts as opposed to 2800 95 watts. And certainly doesnt sound bright and harsh.

Thanks for your help I ended up ...... Getting a replacement Rz50 running pre amp to front off my old marantz Sr 7002 and the new Rz50 running as the processor ontop of that I have done a whole lot of acoustic treatment to the room which by far has to be the Best $ for sound possible the difference is mind bending
