I'm posting this to get you opinion on my latest findings. Maybe someone already knew this, but I did not and it seems a very nice device for a really nice price.

After looking to Amir's review for the EXTRON XPA1002 amplifier I started looking other EXTRON devices, and found several at a pretty good price. Also, EXTRON seems to be a nice and respectable company with good engineering behind its back, so... I thought why not?

I found the EXTRON DMP128 which a DSP Audio Matrix, with 12 inputs and 8 outputs, balanced and unbalanced input and outputs, possibility to program it thru USB and within LAN, integrated PSU, and all for a sweet price of under USD$50 in most cases... I paid USD$40 for it, but after taxes and shipping to my country it was way more than that, and I still feel it was a good purchase.

The only problem was that you needed the licensed software to program the DSP, and you can not download it unless you are a licensed installer. Well, it turns I found the software laying there in the web, tried and it worked!! The DSP works very good, connected now to a Crestron X300 (another good find with ICEpower amp 4x75, 2x150 or 1x300, built like a tank), and it looks very good, it even has the capability to connect it to a second DMP128 and expand the inputs to 24 and outputs to 16... 16 channels of DSP for USD$80?? Thats a deal.

So, whats not to like from this DSP?

-. The software is quite nice, but dont expect miniDSP level of configuration. ie. You only have 9 parametric EQ for each channel, delay, attenuation and other stuff that I don't really use (loudness, compressor, limiter, etc.) 9 EQ should be enough for a active XO and some PEQ on a properly designed speaker, but still it's not a lot (you do have 3 filters more on each input)

-. No integrated volume knob. Ok that goes without saying... volume is not a function on a DSP, so...

-. I really don't how well it performs THD wise. Coming from a company like EXTRON this DSP should be good at least. Maybe Amir can review one unit.

Looking forward to your opinions.

Cheers.

No $40-50 bargains on this thing today -- the lowest price I could find was $99 via eBay. I think I'll stick with my Dayton DSP-408, which I nabbed for $120 on sale with free shipping from PE and is perfectly adequate for my particular use case.
