It's all made in N. America and can be repaired easily, or at least sent in for factory service if needed. (Not dinging gear from elsewhere!)

Maybe the biggest reason. Not throwing things away...

We became acutely aware of waste when we moved to Portland, Oregon. We maintain four different trash cans for pickup, of which the traditional "trash" is the smallest and picked up only every 14 days; we save kitchen waste for composting with garden waste by the municipality; and if we need to throw away a mattress, we can't discard it at the dump (as we did in our previous location), we pay extra for a pickup. All that is a nuisance, but I do that that it's better policy -- that products don't create huge externalities by their waste. After living here, we are startled in hotels in other parts of the US, where we often find recycling bins unavailable for even the daily newspaper, and breakfast is served on endless plastic plates and cups.

Similar here. As soon as we were allowed to compost on our garden we did. Environmental concerns first, within feasibility.
Hand me downs or recycling of everything to every one including me. Electronics will be repaired as long as possible or handed down. For example: electronics only comes into the house-hold if it's and upgrade that I can defend against the above and live with it.

That's why my gear is the best fulfilling the term and usage stated above. I did that but as far as I'm willing to go, some electronics looks pretty.... sorry.

But a real mess when you're looking at. Sometimes even my wife says "it's ugly, get something". Then it's Christmas/birthday. Her audio needs was satified 25 years ago. Now I can even tell her. look/hear this. What do you think? She will agree (I'm not using the "It's going to be a fantastic upgrade!" or not and if she says yes that I wont have argue about anyting else, because she can hear/see/good design as the benefit. That's the ONLY thing, everything else she leave up to me. If she's not agreeing, then it's the negotiation table with no certain outcome. She always have veto. But we have only been married for 25 years.

I know that I'm one of the luckiest guys on the planet.

RME ADI-2 Pro FS->Focal Shape 65/Sennheiser HD6XX. I'm a firm believer in biamped or triamped active speakers, and it's one less thing in my rack.

As for repairability, I'm not afraid to get into the guts of my stuff.

Currently my ambient rig consists of a Topping D90/A90 combo by balanced cables with a Conrad Johnson Classic 2 SE line stage preamp between them in the RCA loop to add gobs of evil 2nd order harmonic distortion when I'm feeling nasty, Audiophonics stereo Purifi amp, Infinity RS 1.5 (1980). The current high performance-high value SOTA stuff is heavily influenced by ASR. ;)

Don't we he-man stereo guys love an opportunity to gratuitously flaunt our tools and pound our chests? Or maybe the OP is just a troll to see how many of us will boast about them. Suckers.

Any chance I can "borrow it"? You don't need it, ask your wife. I also accept any hand me downs.

Well,,, My wife also loves and enjoys the wonderful sound of my multichannel multi-amplifier system! :)

What she doesn't know doesn't hurt her. See explanation below:

Seriously, wow. I'm only joking above.
I wish I had the money for that.
(nothing to do with performance or anything. Just wishful thinking, if I had that amount of money to spend on audio.)
