power rating

Hello everyone, I often hear sentiments like 10W from class-D amplifier is equivalent of 5W from a class-A amplifier. Aren't watts always just that, watts? When buying an amplifier, all I have to look into is the wattage rating at low/high/whatever impedance, right? Or are there other factors...
