Do you have an annual, mandatory, car/vehicle inspection in your country/state?

All true but with one caveat: Annual safety inspections are required for all drivers in the state. Emissions tests are only necessary in 17 counties (Texas has 254 counties), and motorcycles + diesel-powered vehicles are exempted from emissions testing. It is only highly populated...

Master "deals" (massdrop, ebay, Amazon, etc.) Thread on Audio Product Sales

I haven't tried that before. Does that work because you're dealing with salespeople face-to-face who are willing to cut deals? Just curious because Best Buy's official price matching policy (official U.S. policy at least?) doesn't include open box or refurbished.

Question about headphone amplification in speakers amp

Typically — I’m not saying it’s the case here with your amp — vintage stereo amps will have much higher output impedance vs. modern headphone amps. Do you happen to know what the output impedance is for your Audiolab? It might be moot for you as I believe your headphones are 300Ω, so if it’s...

Anyone using their laptop as a desktop/main PC?

@Digby this post from @voodooless is an excellent guide. The only thing I have to add to this: Spend some time hands-on with laptops of various sizes/weights to understand what form factor works for you. 90+% of the time my laptop is on my desk hooked up to an external monitor. As such I have...

    Windows 11 must be stopped

That's interesting, I didn't realize that about IPv6. I haven't tried to configure that for my setup. But I did migrate DHCP duties from my router over to Pihole; I find it makes device management and Pihole reporting a little easier.

    Windows 11 must be stopped

For anyone concerned about privacy -- whether that is related to browsing, the telemetry data from an OS, the telemetry data from IoT devices, etc. -- it is worth exploring Pihole. It's not plug-n-play; it requires a real investment of time and energy. But it provides: Visibility into what...

    EU vs. end-to-end encryption (E2EE)

From Ars Technica: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/05/war-upon-end-to-end-encryption-eu-wants-big-tech-to-scan-private-messages/ This would apply to people who use E2EE applications such as WhatsApp or ProtonMail. It also appears it could affect general web browsing, per the article by...

    Baseball No Hitter

My take is that the circumstances that lead to a combined no-hitter are much more rare, not that they are much harder to get. In looking back at MLB history, ignore the last few years where teams have been much more strict about imposing pitch counts (e.g., Clayton Kershaw) and experimenting...

Upgrading TV - AVR - Subs and more

No. Only when you have source formats that the X6700 can mix such that it uses the height channels. So Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby Atmos Music ... I think there are some others as well. But for other formats it won't try to upmix to use the height speakers...
