In almost all cases the vintage monitors or active systems would just use a single series protection capacitor to keep DC or thumps from damaging HF drivers. If you go through the older crossover manuals there are suggested values vs crossover frequency. Rob :)

Actually that's nonsense. When you bi-amp a system many times parts of the passive crossover stay in place such as attenuation and response tailoring. When you bi-amp you introduce a line level crossover and system is now an active one. Rob :)

That's good! I have seen/heard others that were SPL was limited because of the EQ. They don't necessarily distort because of limiting but the can noticeably compress the output. That something you may not catch if you don't have another reference to listen too that does not compress the signal...

Sure but at what price?? You can easily EQ add a highpass filter and limit for driver protection but as you EQ you loose dynamic range. As long as it meets your SPL target fine but you don't get something for nothing. Rob :)
