I listened to the cd. I listened to an mp3 version of the album. I listened to the album on YouTube. Regardless of the source, the clipping/distortion is noticeable. So it's not source specific.

If you're not using the USB function, plug the usb power into the "usb aux" port. I believe it's the one on top. Yes a regular wall outlet is fine. I read somewhere that a 5v charger is recommended. I think mine is 2 amps, 5 volts. Likely any wall charger would work.
